Remembering Chris Stine
Christopher Roy Stine, age 71 of Travelers Rest, South Carolina was taken from this earth on October 16th, 2026. Through tragic circumstances, he stepped into eternity to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, with whom he’ll be with forever.
Chris was born on June 20, 1955, in Portsmouth, Virginia, to parents Roy and Alicia Stine. Chris was raised in Farmingdale, New York, which he left and headed to the West Coast to serve in the US Navy from 1979-1989. He retired and from there, took his technical trade skills and chanelled those into a passion for electronics/computers, and a career in Silicon Valley. It was in the San Francisco Bay Area where he would settle for much of his life. Here, he built core memories while raising his son Jeff, and ultimately meeting Joyce and her daughter Kimberly.
After searching for true love for many years, Chris found his soulmate and married Joyce Anderson (now Stine) in February 1999. They were married for 28 years, and they have built a beautiful life together on both East & West Coasts. Chris is survived by his son, Jeffrey Martin and daughter Kimberly. He and Joyce have 6 grandchildren (Hannah, Elijah, Leah, Brinley, Cayden and Kiana). Chris also leaves behind his siblings Greg, Stephanie, Nicki, Celeste, Roy, Jackie….with siblings Jeff and Timmy looking on from above.
Chris loved many things, but no passion was deeper than his love for music. As a highly talented (lead) guitar player, he honed his craft over many years; never stopping the pursuit of getting better. From picking up his first guitar in his teens, to playing blues ballads in local bands, to enhancing rich worship tunes at Upcountry Church, Chris has added depth to the music community all around him. While his upstairs music room was his place of solace and practice, the many music venues he played in became life’s amphitheatre for Chris’ purest form of “love.”
Beyond music, he had a thorough passion for the outdoors and spent many years stating the words “what a beautiful day!” From hiking or biking local North & South Carolina trails, to backpacking and camping the Sierras, Chris saw and appreciated God’s beauty throughout this earth. He still walked and/or biked daily, and perhaps no outside activity was more common than “fiddling in the yard all day.” He is still searching for the perfect lawn.
Chris came to know the Lord as his personal savior, in his 40s, and from there worked to pivot his life daily. He was known for his faithful walk with the Lord supporting his local church and community, and pouring into his wife, siblings, son, daughter, grandkids and many friends. Many engaged the Lord because of his witness and saw the fullness of life that this brings.
Fall was his favorite season, and though October 16th, 2026, will forever be a tragic day in this family, it was indeed a beautiful, crisp, sunny fall day. The leaves rustled in the trees, the mountains looked pristine, and Chris was looking at the simple beauties that life has to offer.
