I don't get out to Duncan Mills very often, but when I do, I like to stop by the candle shop. They have lots of lovely scented candles in all kinds of holders. Glass, tins, and more. They also have other scents. I like mixing an earthy and a warm floral scent as a linen spray. Other scents are nice for clothing or just as a personal signature scent. The folks there are always friendly and can help you find the scent that is just right for you.

Here's the short answer: niche isn't a price tag. It's independent houses treating scent as art — small batches, a point of view, ingredients the big designer brands won't pay for, sold in rooms like this instead of a department-store counter.

Another beautiful afternoon of creating joy with fragrances at the Hyatt Centric in Fisherman's Wharf , for a corporate retreat for travel advisors . I composed four scents, one of them unexpectedly named for the official flower of San Francisco! Dahlia, alluring and sensual with tuberose and muguet and amber. Oud Wood, agarwood and vanilla and sandalwood. Santal, warm and enveloping. English Pear & Freesia, crisp and joyful, and the crowd pleaser for sure!

There is a moment I wait for at every event. Someone smells a scent, breathes in, and their whole face changes — and then they hand it to the person next to them and say 𝘰𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥. The gentlemen found their scent as surely as the women did. That is the part that warms my heart most — that scent belongs to everyone, and there is always one that feels fun and special.

Every bar is curated for where it lands. San Francisco got a San Francisco label. Your winery, your wedding, your team will get their own.
