As "Fall" in Florida approaches, here are some tips for your Pond and Water Gardens:
1. If you have trees over your pond or get a lot of debris, use Barley or Barley Extract regularly to help with the tannins in the water. Tannins can cause brown water or odor.
2. Add Beneficial Bacteria on a regular basis to help reduced sludge/muck build up at the bottom of your Pond and in the filter. There are BB products that specifically target these issues.
3. Try to remove as much debris as possible on a regular basis with a fine mesh skimmer net.
4. Clean your filter regularly by backwashing it, if possible, or removing the media and rinsing it out in a bucket of your pond water. Do NOT use city/hose water as it contains harsh chemicals that will kill any good bacteria in your filter!
5. Don't overfeed your fish! Fall in Florida does not mean cool weather, so don't worry about reducing feedings or switching Koi/Fish food just yet. But be sure you are not feeding your fish more than what they can eat within 5 minutes, 1x/day !
