🇺🇸 Let’s talk about this piece. 🇺🇸
At first glance, you might think, “This would make a great addition to my Fourth of July décor!” That was my first thought, too.
But then, as Paul Harvey would say, here’s “the rest of the story.”
In 1968, amid the sexual revolution and the introduction of birth control pills, a counterculture print was published featuring the iconic WWI Uncle Sam image pointing and asking, “Have you had your pill today?”
The following year, Russ and Wallace Berrie released this satirical figurine, capturing the humor and social commentary of the era. Adding to its cultural significance, the phrase “Have you taken your pill today?” was often used as a playful jab toward someone acting a little crazy or out of character.
So while this piece may look patriotic at first glance, it actually tells a fascinating story about American pop culture and social history.
Now, folks, you know “the rest of the story.”
