šŸŽ¶ I’ve got hungry eyes… šŸŽ¶

Unfortunately, so does our intern. All. Day. Long. šŸ˜‚šŸ°

Ever wonder what our newest intern does around here?

Apparently… she clocks in, attends one meeting with herself, and immediately starts fighting sleep. šŸ¤šŸ°

I think it’s safe to say productivity is going to be a little low today. šŸ˜‚

For as long as I can remember, making things has been where my mind gets quiet. It’s where I process life, where I recharge, and where I feel most like myself.

This year has been different.

I’ve spent so much time surviving, working, and just trying to keep all the plates spinning that somewhere along the way, I lost that feeling. I still create because I have to… but I miss creating because I can’t wait to sit down and make something.

I’m hoping that joy isn’t gone forever. I think it’s just waiting patiently for me to find my way back to it.

Somebody remind me… what do you call it when you don’t have to work?

Oh yeah… an off day. šŸ˜‚

I had every intention of sleeping in this morning.

Unfortunately, the intern had other plans.

Apparently, 100 mph bunny zoomies through the camper at the crack of dawn are a mandatory part of her job description.

I guess if she’s awake, we’re all awake. šŸ‡šŸ’Ø

Dottie loves dill, y’all! Watching her take down some herbs always puts a smile on my face.

This year has been really hard.

I know a big part of it is losing Ande. But it hasn’t just been that. It’s been loss, broken promises, and big changes that, if I’m being honest, haven’t made my life better at all.

No matter how this chapter ends or where I eventually land, I don’t know if I’ll ever get back to the version of myself I used to be. Some days I literally struggle just to get out of bed. The smallest tasks feel enormous, and it seems like everything in my life has become a goddamn ordeal.

One of the things I’ve been most grateful for this summer has been sewing camp.

For one week at a time, life feels familiar again. It feels like the life I used to have. I genuinely love these kids.

I still laugh thinking about how terrified I was when they first asked me to teach. I felt completely inadequate. But somewhere along the way I realized my job isn’t to know everything. On the first day I always tell the campers, ā€œI’m a crafter, not a seamstress. I can get you started, answer the questions I know, and fix your sewing machine when it decides to throw a tantrum… but I probably can’t help you make a chiffon dress.ā€ They usually laugh, shrug, and say, ā€œOkay!ā€ Turns out that’s enough.

This summer was even more special because Dottie came with me each week. Who knew a little bunny could bring so much joy to a classroom? Word spread quickly, and before long campers, teachers, staff, and even adult students would stop by throughout the day just to get a little bunny time. Watching Dottie quietly choose a lap, seeing nervous kids light up, hearing everyone laugh… it was pure magic.

I’m really going to miss these weeks.

P.S. I made this song for the campers this week. They loved it and asked me to play it over and over, so I figured I’d share it with all of you too. ā¤ļø Spruill Center for the Arts

I can’t find motivation at all this week to work. I know it’s some form of depression that I’ve got to get through. But Dottie and I have been working on some parlor tricks if you’re interested.

The Chi E O would have been 16 today. The little nest has not been the same without him.

Big news from The Little Nest: our intern received her first performance bonus today.

She ate it immediately.

No savings. No retirement plan. No thoughts about her future whatsoever.

Management is concerned.
