Time for a rain dance here in Durango! ⛈️☔️💧

Made from linked metal lotus sculpted cups our rain chains help water flow gently from roof to garden or water catchment system.

Pictured here is a 7 foot chain, which creates a beautiful cascading flow during rainfall. Both functional and ornamental, this handmade piece is an elegant way to manage water runoff.

I had an incredible time at the International Folk Art Market in Santa Fe, NM this weekend with my niece Cally Attkisson. Santa Fe is a world center for art and culture, and the Folk Art Market did not disappoint. The mix of people from all over the world combined with textiles, sculptures, jewelry, and baskets—all made by hand—were stunningly beautiful. It was a sweet reminder that our mission at Durango Sustainable Goods “to support a sustainable material revolution” is gaining momentum. The Folk Art Market may feature goods made by hand, but it is evolving into a market where natural fibers and upcycled and recycled materials are finding there way into traditional and innovative folk art. The material revolution is happening!

🌵Sustainability is deeply connected to all things local. Supporting local artists and makers builds connection, community, and economic resilience. Supporting local makers, artists, and businesses is the antidote to chain stores that send much of their revenue out of our community! Support local when you can.

🌱 I’m happy to share this month’s featured local artist (one of 15 in our shop!):
Allyson Coraggio is an outdoors-loving, adventure-seeking maker who calls Durango home. She spends her time hiking, biking, camping, paddleboarding, and traveling whenever possible.

🚵‍♂️ Making earrings is her creative outlet—a way to slow down, get hands-on, and give new life to materials that might otherwise be thrown away.

🚲 These unique earrings shown hear are crafted from upcycled bike tires sourced from a local Durango bike shop. They’re lightweight, durable, and waterproof—perfect for everyday wear and outdoor adventures alike. Each pair gives new life to materials that would otherwise go to waste, making them both sustainable and stylish.

🌍Happy Earth Day!

I have committed my life to finding new and old ways of living in relationship to the Earth. To understanding the incredible gifts of nature (think fire, water, air, and soil) where all life is born. Life is a powerful force, a diverse expression of eons of evolution. Take notice of nature today and everyday.

My prayers for Earth Day:

🌱 May humans find ways to connect more nature to itself as stewards and protectors.

🌞May each and everyone of us slow down and breath in the wonders of nature and take this knowing into how we make decisions everyday, at home, and at work.

💧May we choose to support sustainable innovations, businesses, and the earth friendly material revolution that is happening now.

🌵May we imagine a future for our children and grandchildren… where humans and nature mutually flourish.
