This is another product we've been eagerly waiting for (over a couple of months!) - and they're finally here! These acrylic paint gel pens make it easy to add bold color, fine details, and playful accents to almost any creative project. With sets of 36 or 90 colors, there's plenty of room to experiment, layer, and let your ideas wander.

Do things for fun

I saved this from somewhere on the internet. It was too good not to share it, even if I have no attribution:

Destroy the idea that you gotta be good at artistic things to enjoy them, that every hobby has to become something you're so good at, you can monetize it. That's a lie.

Sing offkey, draw poorly, write badly. Life is meant to be enjoyed, not monetized. You're not a product.

Here's a quick reminder to do things just for the fun of it. Creating can take effort and feel like work sometimes, sure. It can also be enjoyable, fun, stress-relieving, and generally a messy delight.

I've said before that creating allows you to be your full self, and the world needs the most "you" that you can be. Therefore, the world needs your art!

We've literally been waiting a couple of months for these to arrive, and they're finally here! These portable watercolor paint sets have been a delight to test and we've loved the color and quality of the paints (especially for the price). Since it's World Watercolor Month (at least for a few more days), it only made sense to share these new watercolor sets!

Closer than you think

Stephen King almost didn't write his first book. He wrote a few pages of "Carrie", hated the idea, and threw them in the trash. His wife fished them out the next day and told him he had something worth pursuing. So he kept writing and started submitting the story to publishers. After rejection after rejection, it was finally published - and you've probably heard of that Stephen King guy since then.

His brain had convinced him the story was garbage. But the idea, and the work he almost abandoned, ended up changing his life.

How often does something like this happen to us? That voice in our head tells us the work isn't good enough, the idea isn't worth pursuing, or we should stop before anyone else gets the chance to judge it. But that voice is usually acting out of fear. It's trying to keep us safe.

One of my most commonly shared pieces of art-making advice is this: look at your work from a distance. Literally step back and look at it from a different viewpoint. But also give it the distance of time. Go get a drink of water, take a walk, or put it aside overnight. Whatever it takes, leave it and come back later so you can see it with fresh, more objective eyes.

Give your work some time and another pass. The thing you're ready to throw away today might look completely different tomorrow. You may be sitting on something worth pursuing. You may be closer than you think. And the world needs your art!

The universe is experiencing itself through you

I've shared many times that we all live in our own worlds. Recently, I came across a different way of thinking about that idea. The universe is not one giant living thing. It can't taste an apple or look at nature in awe. To experience itself, it has to break itself down into galaxies, oceans, trees, animals, you, me, and everyone else. In that sense, the universe is experiencing itself through you.

You didn't come into this world; you came out of it. You are the universe alive, awake, and looking back at itself. Strange, right?

If we are the universe's looking glass, then isn't our job to become more ourself? Rumi said, "You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop." Only you can share your particular (wonderfully weird) view of the world.

You have a duty to be original. If the universe wanted a billion identical copies of the same person, it would have made them. The universe wants to see what only you can see. The universe needs your art!
