🖍️ Okay, coloring friends… we’re going down another colorful rabbit hole! 😂
Last week we took a trip through the history of colored pencils, and you all know I couldn’t stop there.
This week: CRAYONS! 🖍️🌈
And I have to admit - I had no idea their story went back this far!
Long before we were peeling wrappers off our favorite crayons or arguing over who got the “best” color in the box 😂, people were creating with natural pigments, chalks, pastels, colored sticks, and eventually early wax crayons.
Then came 1903, when Binney & Smith introduced the Crayola crayons that would become such a huge part of childhood in America. That first famous box contained just 8 colors and cost 5 cents!
Think about that for a second… Eight colors. 😳
Meanwhile, some of us now have enough coloring supplies to open our own art store. 😂
I absolutely LOVE learning the history behind the tools we use to create. The materials have changed tremendously over the years, but the reason we reach for them really hasn’t:
We just love to create. ❤️
Take a peek through the graphic because there are some fun little pieces of crayon history in there that surprised me!
And tell me in the comments…
🖍️ What was your FAVORITE crayon color growing up?
