Utility company staging equipment while repairing gas line
Starting Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026, the ENSTAR Natural Gas Company will be staging heavy equipment in the north parking lot of the Begich, Boggs Visitor Center while repairing a gas line. This necessitates partial closure of the parking lot for the duration of the repairs.
A majority of the north parking lot, closest to the visitor center, will be cordoned off while heavy machinery is present. However, the accessible parking spaces will remain open to those with the appropriate placard.
The south parking lot will not be affected by this closure and will be open to the public for parking. Visitors can also find additional parking by Portage Lake before entering the visitor centerโs parking lots.
The public boat launch will not be accessible by vehicle; however, visitors can walk there via a short trail on the left of the visitor center building.
Please be mindful of the parking lot closure while recreating in the area and follow all posted signs. We appreciate your patience as we provide the necessary space for ENSTAR Natural Gas to conduct repairs.
