Another firefighter/paramedic was delighted with this radio holster/harness his girlfriend purchased for him. The vegetable tanned strap leather is lined with a Newbury Leather Latigo that is soft and supple. This harness strap has a “ranger belt” style adjustment so it has “Top Drawer” appearance compared to most other radio harness straps. Not sure if he liked the phrase “Seasoned Provider” she requested be stamped on it but Hicks is smiling in the photo.

This was a package deal. The handle scales on these knives were a special order made of fossilized mammoth tooth. The patterns and colors in them were beautiful and I was pleased to be asked to make the matching set of knife sheaths for the 3 Dog Knife (3DK) brand. Check out the 3DK product line at https://www.3dogknife.com/

This project was completed in November or last year but I’m just getting around to posting it. This knife has a long history. It was issued to Perry Eaton’s father during his service in WWII. The handle of the knife was missing several pieces of the stacked leather grip and had no sheath to go with it. Perry wanted it repaired so I he could gift it to his grandson. A historical note: Perry told me the bolsters on these GI knives were originally made of brass but later in the war they were made of steel as brass was in short supply and going to the effort of making shell casings. He asked me to repair the handle and make a knife sheath that would match a photograph of the originally issued sheath. Making the repair was a head scratcher. I had considered removing the grip cap by drilling the pin which held it in place but was unsure I could do this without damaging the cap. Also, I wondered if I removed the cap would I be able to compress the leather washers tightly enough and install a new retaining pin in the steel shank. Eventually, I had a thought that something a saddle maker had taught me might be a viable way to make the repair. I tried it (3 times) and it worked on the third try. I was relieved. Perry was delighted with the repaired handle and the sheath. The bear paw stamp on the retaining strap was an appreciated embellishment as his father was stationed on Kodiak Island during the war. This knife was number 1 of 65 for an ATA (Amateur Trap Association) fundraiser. I was asked to make this sheath for the knife owner. I used a Barry King boarder stamp that has the appearance of a clay target. This stamp was used to embellish the sheath.

One happy paramedic who sent a request to make a new radio harness with their new married name on it. I hade made the radio holster and Leatherman Raptor Shear holster eight years ago so it shows a little wear but has held up well.

Another happy customer sent me a text about this custom cover I made for his MSR tent stake mallet..."Sure happy. Piece looks great. Thank you for the thoughtful design and build...Looks great." Actually, this little project was a head scratcher for a while as the customer wanted it to be light weight and cover both ends of the hammer so it would not damage other equipment in his backpack. I was pleased with how it turned out, and if I am happy with the work the custmer will be. It's tough being a perfecionist.

Just took a look at the Great Northern Knives website for the first time and I saw this Beck model knife which I made the sheath for. This is a really nice knife. It was well balanced and it felt great in the hand.
