This year, we've been selling more Handy Lock turnbuckles than ever, and that's no accident.

Our design has been around since the late 50's, and for over 65 years, others have been trying to copy it. The latest attempt has been making the rounds for a few years now: a rough-looking stainless electroplated knockoff that has failed to gain any traction with serious sailors and riggers who know the difference.

Here's what they can't replicate: the Handy Lock frame is built from chrome-plated marine bronze, which is the gold standard for saltwater hardware. It's paired with a tumble-finished 316 stainless handle and cover. It's the best of both worlds, engineered from the start and made right here in the USA.

The result? A fitting that is neat, compact, and positively locked without cotter pins or check nuts. No sharp edges to catch lines or tear sails. Just flip the lever up to adjust, down to lock. Features 1/4-28 thread, a 1000lb safe working load, and is compatible with 3/32", 1/8", or 5/32" wire. Available in jaw-to-jaw, jaw-to-swage, and calibrated construction.

Johnson's Handy Lock is the international standard for locking turnbuckles. Often copied. Never duplicated.

We've even seen them used to rig church bells in New Jersey... now that's a legacy!

While some manufacturers machine their turnbuckle bodies from solid steel, we produce ours the "traditional" way with a Brown & Sharpe screw machine. In this video, you’ll see how every closed turnbuckle body is drilled and threaded before moving on to finishing.

A traditional body starts as tubing that’s cut to length, then swaged, drilled, and threaded. A machined body, by contrast, begins as solid stock that’s cut away to achieve the same final shape. Both approaches arrive at a similar result, but through very different processes.

In many cases, formed material like tubing retains a more continuous grain structure, which can offer advantages in strength and fatigue resistance compared to fully machined parts. It’s a time-tested method we’ve trusted for decades. Johnson hardware has been proudly made in the USA for over 65 years! Check out our catalog today to see the end product:

ORDER THE NEW WIRETEKNIK A-210 TODAY

Introducing the new and elusive Wireteknik A-210 swaging machine. This is the latest release from Wireteknik, and we’ve got one in hand (serial number 26).

If you’re familiar with the A-100 and A-200, you already know why this matters. The A-100 has long been the go-to for portability, handling 1/16” - 3/16” cable while staying under 30 lbs even with a hand pump. The A-200, on the other hand, expands capacity to 1/16” - 5/16” and is a staple for riggers and contractors across the world. With added capacity comes added weight. The A-200 is approximately 42lbs without a pump.

The A-210 brings those two worlds together.

Wireteknik has combined the compact, lightweight design of the A-100 with the broader capability of the A-200, effectively replacing both models with a single, more versatile machine. The result is a swager that delivers meaningful capacity without sacrificing portability.

Even better, the A-210 is fully compatible with A-200 die sets and the same hydraulic hand pump, making it an easy upgrade for existing users.
Information on this machine has been limited so far, with only a handful of listings overseas. We’re glad to be able to share real photos and firsthand details.

We are now accepting orders! Units ship from Sweden, with typical lead times of just 1 to 2 weeks to our warehouse.

Need more information about the A-210 or other Wireteknik equipment? Reach out by phone or email. We’re happy to help.

Many thanks to Cook Welding for the photos! This pristine deck was put together with our button-end Terminal Tuner turnbuckles for 3/16" cable.

https://www.cookwelding.com/

These simple and attractive fittings offer something for everyone. The receiver ends pass through your end posts. The terminal ends are crimped or swaged to your wire, and then they're threaded into the receivers. Adjustment is easy and only requires a 3/16" hex key. That's it!

We offer "button" ends which are great for flat metal framework. They're also excellent for wood railings when used with proper washers (yes, we sell those too). The "bevel" ends are designed to sit flush in a 82-degree countersunk hole. "Ball" ends work great at angles like stairs.

Terminal tuners are available in any of the styles listed above for 1/8", 3/16", or 1/4" cable. DIY "Hand Crimp" versions are available for 1/8" or 3/16" cable only. Terminal Tuners are proudly made by Johnson in the USA from type 316 stainless steel.

Here's a system that's very popular with our customers. We have a surface-mounted "deck toggle" turnbuckle for adjustment and a quick-fit mechanical toggle for the end.

Most of our customers swage the turnbuckles in a workshop before bringing them to the job, though they can also be attached on-site with our hand crimp tool. Once ready, mount the hardware according to your plans, then simply insert the other end of the cable into the quick-fit toggles. These fittings hold the cable tight, with no swaging or crimping required. Tension the cables, and then you're good to go!

Whether you're a contractor installing hundreds of cable railings each week or a first-time DIY homeowner, this system was made for you. These two fittings are easy to prepare, simple to install, reliable, and aesthetically pleasing. Keep your customers happy with Johnson's "deck toggle" cable railing system.

Check out this suspended staircase which was featured in one of our older catalogs. What an incredible setup! This installation was designed by Bernstein Design (Chicago, IL), and fabricated by Boaters World Chicago. It's difficult to see much detail on the hardware, but there are a few different jaw-end fittings here at play. Johnson hardware is versatile... it's not just for lifelines and cable railing!
