This year, we've been selling more Handy Lock turnbuckles than ever, and that's no accident.
Our design has been around since the late 50's, and for over 65 years, others have been trying to copy it. The latest attempt has been making the rounds for a few years now: a rough-looking stainless electroplated knockoff that has failed to gain any traction with serious sailors and riggers who know the difference.
Here's what they can't replicate: the Handy Lock frame is built from chrome-plated marine bronze, which is the gold standard for saltwater hardware. It's paired with a tumble-finished 316 stainless handle and cover. It's the best of both worlds, engineered from the start and made right here in the USA.
The result? A fitting that is neat, compact, and positively locked without cotter pins or check nuts. No sharp edges to catch lines or tear sails. Just flip the lever up to adjust, down to lock. Features 1/4-28 thread, a 1000lb safe working load, and is compatible with 3/32", 1/8", or 5/32" wire. Available in jaw-to-jaw, jaw-to-swage, and calibrated construction.
Johnson's Handy Lock is the international standard for locking turnbuckles. Often copied. Never duplicated.
We've even seen them used to rig church bells in New Jersey... now that's a legacy!
