🌧️ Trailer Safety Tips: Bad Weather & Flooding

* Slow down. Wet roads dramatically increase stopping distance, especially when towing a loaded trailer.
* Leave extra following distance. Give yourself plenty of room to brake or maneuver.
* Watch for hydroplaning. Trailer tires can lose traction just like vehicle tires, and a trailer can begin to sway when traction is lost.
* Avoid standing water whenever possible. You may not be able to see potholes, washed-out pavement, debris, or a damaged road underneath.
* Never drive through moving floodwater. Even shallow-looking water can move a vehicle or trailer, and you can’t know how deep it is.
* Turn around—don’t drown. If water is covering the roadway, find another route.
* Be especially cautious on bridges and low-water crossings. Flooding can weaken or wash out the road beneath the surface.
* Check your trailer lights. Rain and spray make visibility worse, so working brake lights, turn signals, and marker lights are critical.
* Check your tires before leaving. Make sure trailer tires are properly inflated and have adequate tread. Don’t forget the tow vehicle’s tires.
* Secure your load. Wind, rain, and sudden braking can shift cargo. Make sure everything is properly tied down and covered when appropriate.
* Watch for trailer sway. If the trailer starts swaying, don’t slam on the brakes or jerk the steering wheel. Ease off the accelerator and allow the combination to slow down while keeping the steering steady.
* Use your headlights. Make your vehicle and trailer easier for other drivers to see.
* Be alert for debris. Storms can put tree limbs, branches, mud, rocks, and other debris in the roadway.
* Know when to park it. If conditions become dangerous, there’s nothing wrong with pulling over somewhere safe and waiting out the worst of the storm.

🚨 Remember: Your trailer may be able to handle the load—but that doesn’t mean the road can handle the water. When in doubt, don’t drive through it.

❤️ A little piece of Rodeo Shop history ❤️

This is a picture of my grandparents, the original founders of The Rodeo Shop Western Wear & Trailer Sales.

Seeing this picture makes me so proud of where our business began and the legacy they started all those years ago. From their love of horses and the Western way of life to what The Rodeo Shop is today, it’s pretty special to be carrying that tradition forward. 🤠🐴

Some businesses are built on more than just business—they’re built on family, passion, and history. ❤️

If you are familiar with Eaton's Rodeo Shop, I thought you might like to see this post that was in my Facebook memories on my personal page today. It has nothing to do with Lanier School, but it's a magnificent picture. This is a wedding photo of the late Don Lutz and Joan Lutz. They had been founders/owners of Eaton’s Rodeo Shop. (Joan passed away in 2002, Don passed away in 2017). They were friends of my late husband’s parents, and they attended many of the same horse shows over the years. It’s interesting to look at the old horse show programs that I kept, and photos from the Horse Shows/Rodeos the Smith, Lutz family and others performed in. We stopped at the Rodeo Shop before Don passed away and we gave him the original copy of this photo. He remembered the photo and the horse. We have other photos taken at horse shows that they all participated in over the years. A good memory.

☀️ TRAILER TIP SUNDAY! 🚛🔥

HOT WEATHER + TRAILERS = PAY EXTRA ATTENTION TO YOUR TIRES! 🌡️

When temperatures rise, your trailer tires work harder and heat up faster. Before you hit the road:

🔸 Check tire pressure when the tires are cold
🔸 Look for cracks, bulges, or dry rot
🔸 Check for uneven tread wear
🔸 Make sure you’re not exceeding the tire’s load rating
🔸 Take a quick look at your tires during longer trips

And remember — don’t let air out of a hot tire just because the pressure has increased. That pressure increase is normal as the tire heats up.

🔥 A little prevention can go a long way when you’re hauling in the summer heat!

Stay cool & haul safe! 🇺🇸
