How precious is this 9ct yellow gold dolphin charm or petite pendant? It is stamped 375 which is another way 9ct gold may be marked. (For reference: 585 is 14K and 750 is 18K.) 9ct gold is the minimum gold content allowed in the UK for pieces to be considered gold.

A previous owner decoupaged a thistle on the cover of this well used mirrored compact. Did you know the thistle is the national flower of Scotland. I found this explanation on the Scotland National Trust website. Truth or folklore - it's a great story!
"No-one is truly sure of how the thistle came to be Scotland’s national flower. A well-known story though attributes the thistle being chosen as the emblem of Scotland to the Battle of Largs (a coastal town in Ayrshire) in the 13th century. A Norse army journeyed to Scotland, intent on conquering the land. The legend has it that they left their ships under cover of night, and were planning to ambush the sleeping Scottish Clansmen. In order to be as quiet as possible, the Norsemen had removed their shoes. However as they crept across the countryside, one of them stepped onto a thorny thistle. His cry of pain roused the Scots, and the warriors rose up and defeated the invaders."

Do you know what E.S.F. stands for? It is a ski school in France that teaches all ages to ski. These pins are in the original box and probably have never been used. Would a skier pin these to their jacket or wear them inside at the lodge after a day on the slopes? I have no idea and doubt anyone in Florida would want them so they will stay here for some ESF graduate (or wannabe skier) to enjoy!

Not every 'find' is a winner! These two 925 hallmarked pieces are "white metal," not sterling silver. They came from the small Marketplace lot of sterling pieces I have shared the last two days. If you have a story or picture of something you bought that didn't turn out as you expected, please share it! Sometimes all we can do is laugh at the duds!

A Tahitian or South Sea pearl pendant marked LN 925 on the bale has been paired with an older Italy S925 sterling link chain.
LN is the maker's mark but figuring out the maker is easier said than done! This beautiful pearl has an almost metallic black/gray luster that reflects my hand and camera is many of these pictures.
I won't keep these two pieces together because the pearl will shine on a different type of chain. This link chain can stand alone as a necklace or perhaps have a more angular pendant.

This sterling cello or violin pendant necklace came in the same lot as the 1896 Victorian cello brooch I shared a few days ago. It is a more modern piece of jewellery and does not originate here in the UK. It is stamped 925. UK jewellery is stamped with multiple marks including an assay mark denoting the office that inspected it. Even though these pieces weren't produced in the same century, one could call them a "married" set.
I've included a few pictures of the brooch so you could compare the markings.

Check out this brass or bronze Celtic Triskele pendant! I looked up the meaning behind the design and learned it has many meanings. Have you over heard "Third time's a charm"? That is tied to an old Celtic belief that things happen in threes. My PA Dutch grandmother used to say "What makes two, makes three!" meaning if it happened twice something similar was bound to happen again.
Do you have your own saying regarding threes?

This darling pendant may be made with a carnelian gemstone. Carnelian is a July birthstone. The color is vibrant and the design simple. This came in the same silver lot as the Victorian cello brooch I posted a few days ago.
