If you’re perfect the way you are you can stop reading.
We live at a time where the term “Self Love” has been corrupted.
It’s taken on a meaning of stagnation and excuse making instead of what it really should be.
It should be about honesty with yourself.
It should be about admitting that you WANT to be better than you are, that you aren’t perfect, that you aren’t happy, that you aren’t healthy, and that you aren’t doing what you can be doing to achieve the things that you really want.
We are continuously lead to believe by social media rainbow and unicorn self help book selling gurus that having feelings of wanting more or wanting to be better is evil, that this constant evolution of getting better will only lead to feelings of inadequacy and self hate.
That we are as we exist, simply enough as is and we should be ok and happy just simply existing, and that we don’t need to change anything about ourselves.
Are we though? Do you really feel that way? That you’re perfect? Or are you using this mantra as an excuse to feel like you should not chase what you want because doing that is hard and will probably be the hardest thing you’ve ever done? Are you avoiding this internal and external work of the mind and body? Do you really just simply want to exist? I don’t think you do.
Chasing perfection and constantly comparing yourself to others is equally toxic, but self love isn’t doing that. Self love is comparing who you are now to who you desire most to be and then reaching to achieve that.
Because no matter how many times you tell yourself the lie that you are perfect the way you are, those thoughts of what you truly want will always exist no matter how hard you try to dismiss them.
So you get to choose every day, do I dismiss those thoughts in the name of “self love” or do I acknowledge them and truly start to love myself and who i want to be.
