Growing up, my mom always told me comparison is the stealer of joy and I think that has been my biggest challenge throughout the past year.

I have never been one to compete. In the space of my industry I’ve always been a resource for people who make things. To help troubleshoot, and to help teach. It has never been about competition for us.

Yet when a big box retailer moved in right next to us, I found myself constantly comparing their traffic to ours. Their pricing to ours. Their products to ours. And in an effort to stand out and make our name known, we became exhausted trying to compete.

But the reality is, that’s just never been who we are. We may not have the same traffic, the inventory levels or sales prices but we can stand out with offering transparency in our ingredients, the experience you get when you get to come in create your own products, and the way you’re treated when you shop with us.

Because being small and local is actually what makes us great!

Is pricing all that matters when you buy products? How can small business compete with big box retailers?

You all had A LOT of questions after Day 1. 👀

But there was one we saw more than any other.

Today, we’re answering it.

It’s also one of the hardest parts of this entire story for us to talk about.

This is Day 2 of sharing what has happened since a big-box retailer moved in right next door to small family business.

We want to know what you think after you hear this one!

And if you’re just finding our story, start with Day 1 and follow along because there’s a lot more to this story.

We spent ten years building our family business. Then a national big-box competitor moved directly next door.

We invested our savings to take Bath Sorbet nationwide. Franchising paused. Growth became survival.

We could stay quiet and pretend this hasn’t changed everything for us—but we won’t.

This is the honest story of the pivots, the fight to protect what our family built and the realities of owning a small business.

If you have ever built, worked for or rooted for a small business, we would love to have your support and to cheer us on!

This is Day 1. 💗
