I have some Hoya (also known as Wax plant) starts available for sale at Darryl's Starview Plants. They are houseplants but can be put outside in indirect sun in the summer.
Hoya are beautiful vining plants that can be grown in hanging baskets or trained on a trellis.
Hoya carnosa, 'Krimson Queen' is a beautiful plant with shiny thick dark green leaves with white variegation on the outside edges of the leaves. New leaves have a rose pink variegation. The flowers are lightly scented, pink, star shaped in spherical clusters. Once they bloom they will bloom on the same peduncles over and over. They are easy to grow and only need watered about every 2 weeks. I have a few of these available for $10.
Hoya Publicalyx 'Red Button' has long dark green leaves with lots of white splash. They do well on a trellis but grow very long vining branches in a hanging pot. Flowers are fuzzy red/purple stars also in a spherical shape and lightly scented especially in the evening Very easy plant to grow only needing water when its soil is dry. Also $10.

We're having a heat wave and so are your plants in your flower and vegetable gardens. Here are a few tips to help your babies make it through these high temperatures.
1. WATER. They need a heavy drink of it in the morning so their roots can soak it in. Water deeply to help the roots to grow long and strong. Water early in the day to prevent scorching of the leaves from the hot sun hitting the water droplets left on them.
2. MULCH. 2-3 inches of organic mulch will keep their roots cooler, lock in moisture and an added bonus, help prevent w**d growth.
3. DON'T FERTILIZE OR PRUNE. Fertilizing and pruning during a heat wave encourages new tender shoots on your plants, adding stress when they are just trying to survive, Deadheading spent flowers is ok to continue.
If you have recently visited Darryl's Starview Plants and purchased some new perennials from me, here's what to do:
1. WATER. Water every day and deeply. Newly planted perennials have not had a chance to develop deep roots and may dry out fast.
2. MULCH. Mulching is also a great idea for your new plants to conserve moisture.
3. GIVE THEM SOME SHADE IF POSSIBLE. Put a lawn chair over them or an umbrella or a shade cloth to keep them from the direct burning sun.
4. DO NOT FERTILIZE. For the same reasons as above.
If you are noticing wilting in the afternoon and you watered in the morning, it may just be your plants way of coping with the heat. If you notice browning around the leaf edges or yellow leaves, there could be a problem more serious and they may need immediate help.

I hope that you were all safe from the storms last night my gardening friends. Other than some pots blown over, we have no damage. I will be focusing on my coneflowers this week. I have several very attractive coneflowers: Purple (the standard old faithful) Alan's Pride (lime green daisy shaped flowers), Paradiso SuperDuper (Rose toned double flowers), White Swan (Large daisy-like white petals with a coppery center) Pow Wow Wild Berry (Beautiful bright berry colored blooms). I'm planning to start selling perennials again next week.
The weather has made it difficult to get started but the plants are growing so I'm planning to get my ads on marketplace and start making appointments. Message me and make an appointment. My winter sowing turned out to be 34 jugs of various sizes (I used a few OJ bottles and some half gallons). I wasn't going to plant so many but it's hard to stop when you have a multitude of seeds because you have a seed buying addiction like I do! Hopefully with the weather warming some there will be some sprouting soon. I planted a few herbs, lots of flowers, both annuals and perennials, and a few vegetables.
I get so excited when things start to grow in the spring. Many of my perennials have already started growing in their pots at Darryl's Starview Plants so will be ready for sale soon. I am filled with gratitude when I go outside and just hear the birds singing again and see everything greening up after such a long snowy winter! Hope to see many of you soon!

As I looked out my backdoor at the blizzard this morning, I have been thinking about starting my perennials with winter sowing again this year. Snow on the ground, seeds in their little jugs. That’s winter sowing! It is nature’s way of starting plants—no heat mats, no fuss, just some milk jugs, dirt, and labels will yield strong, hardy seedlings come spring. I’ll have plenty ready for your garden. Coneflowers, Black-eyed Susan, Liatris, Yarrow, Milkw**d, Joe Pye W**d & more beautiful perennial starts. Hardy plants for tough Michigan weather and I think you will agree that this winter has been especially tough! I am focusing on more native plants for attracting pollinators this spring.
