Hi, I’m Alisa Ellie. Apparently it’s time to reintroduce myself.

Creative Director and lead floral designer at Malva + Moss. Also occasionally the accountant, content manager, delivery driver, flower-market detective, professional problem solver, and person asking, “but what if we made it weirder?”

I never planned on running a floral business, which is funny considering how much of my brain it occupies now.

I’m spontaneous, curious, and always up for an adventure—which probably explains why my designs rarely start with “let’s keep it predictable.”

Less charming: I’m an overthinker. Fortunately, this is one of the few professions where obsessing over a two-inch shift, the exact shade of brown, or whether something needs one more branch can technically be called attention to detail.

I like flowers a little strange, designs with personality, clients who trust the process, and ideas I haven’t tried before.

So hi again. This is me—and the slightly chaotic brain behind Malva + Moss.

And why, somehow, none of it became the client’s problem.

A little production-week reality check. Because the finished photos rarely show you what happened in the 72 hours before them.

I’d rather budget for an extra pair of hands than build a timeline that only works if absolutely nothing goes wrong.

Imported flowers have their own timelines. Holidays, customs, flights, trucking—your production schedule has to leave some room for real life.

Flowers are agriculture. A confirmed order does not magically make a crop immune to weather. This is exactly why substitutions are part of my contract and something I communicate from the beginning.

Availability can change in both directions. Sometimes the thing that disappeared comes back 24 hours later. You stay flexible until the flowers are physically in your hands.

Flower names are not Pantone numbers. Color varies by grower, season, temperature and crop. Sometimes the solution isn’t throwing the product away—it’s knowing where it can work and what you need to add around it.

Experience doesn’t eliminate problems. It changes how expensive, stressful and visible those problems become.

Not the cancelled freelancers.
Not the delayed truck.
Not the heat-damaged crop.
Not the wrong-colored anthurium.
Not me rewriting the flower recipe for the fifth time.
Just their wedding.

You’re not doing something wrong because something went wrong. The skill is learning which problems you can anticipate, which ones you can’t, and having enough flexibility to solve both.
