I am working on these medallions for my brother’s upper set. They are inspired by tipi medallions not to be confused with the ones that we see on the women’s beadwork today.
Rather these ornaments were used on tipi linings and are known as tipi ornaments or decorations.
I wanted to honor both of my tribes.
Not only did the Cheyenne make these tipi ornaments, the Arapaho often made them too. Sometimes for the Sundance and other ceremonies.
Rather than copy them exactly I wanted to take inspiration and bring back some design work that we could all use.. while also keeping the Cheyenne and Arapaho style alive.
