This series 1891 $2 Treasury Note features General James McPhearson who the second highest ranking Union Officer to not only die in the war, but was also the only Union Army Commander to die in the field. On the back of the note, it is simple and indicates that it is a Treasury Not rather than a standard Legal Tender Note. The star on the note represents a replacement note and adds to the scarcity of these large notes.

We have this gem that just came into our shop. Today’s featured item is this first $100 Federal Reserve note issued in 1914. This note was called “A Horse Blanket” due to its size measuring 7.372 in by 3.125 in. From the front you can see that there is a side portrait of Benjamin Fraklin, and on the back, shows a series of figures that represents Labor, Plenty, America, Peace, and Commerce.

FUN FACT about this note is that they either came with a Red Seal or Blue Seal, and the red seal is the more scare of the two. This particular design only lasted until 1929, and many of them were withdrawn from circulation and were destroyed by the government over the years, making these notes scares and desirable.
