Well deserved! Patti not only engaged in so many groups, clubs, events, activities, organizations, etc. but she lived them and reflected them in her life. I loved that she would stop and shop every few weeks and talk about the old buildings and history in town. She would bring in family and friends to the shop, I loved to see her and have those fun conversations, it’s a unique experience these days to see someone not just say they believed in building back up a town but to also shop and engage in the everyday over looked actions that it takes to promote that vision❤️ like supporting local shops, remembering that old student, or passing the torch to a new generation. She was a great coach, kind friend, valuable community asset, genuine supporter, and selfless giver. She reminded me of my father as she carried herself with faith and strength in times of unspeakable worldly heaviness. Both I’m sure met with all the rest & unimaginable beauty long deserved❤️🙌🏻
It is our honor to recognize Patti Durflinger, as our next inductee for the Cardinal Hall of Fame.
Patti’s life was defined by her dedication to Cardinal, the Eldon community, education, and service to others. After graduating from Cardinal in 1969, Patti pursued her degree in education and later earned her Master’s Degree from Morningside College. She returned home to Cardinal, where she spent 26 years as a teacher and coach, creating a classroom where students felt valued, supported, and cared for.
A lifelong member of the Eldon community, Patti was deeply committed to serving others. She shared her time and talents through TTT, PEO, the Eldon City Council, Eldon Uptown/Downtown, American Gothic Performing Arts, the American Gothic House and Center, and the Eldon Avenue of Flags. She was active in her church, established Veterans Day programs in the schools where she taught, and helped preserve local history by co-authoring Eldon: Home of the American Gothic House. Her dedication to Cardinal extended well beyond the classroom, as she volunteered for school activities, supported Cardinal athletics, and was always willing to help wherever she was needed.
Patti represented what it means to be a Comet throughout her entire life. As a student, educator, coach, volunteer, community leader, and devoted Cardinal supporter, she left a lasting impact on generations of students, families, and the community she loved. We are proud to recognize Patti Durflinger as the next Cardinal Hall of Fame inductee.
