One of our volunteers, Bud Eastridge, passed yesterday. He was always a joy to work with. He will be missed by the Hosparus staff, volunteers, and shoppers.
James W. “Bud” Eastridge, age 83, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Sonora, passed away on July 27, 2026, at Baptist Health Hardin. Bud was born on January 25, 1943. He was a believer and follower of Jesus Christ and was a member of Barren Run Baptist Church. Bud and his wife, Shirley, farmed side by side on their dairy farm until their retirement. Bud and his wife, Shirley, also owned and operated Bud’s Lake in Sonora during the 1980’s providing a gathering place for swimming, fishing, picnicking and family reunions. Bud retired from his job with the National Resource Conservation Service working with farmers for the best land practices. He and Shirley went on several mission trips and volunteered for many Christian and nonprofit organizations.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, James Arther and Morna Eastridge two sisters, Shirley Ramsey and Violette McMurtry.
He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Shirley Shipp Eastridge; his children, Sindy (Arleigh) Durham, Mike (Lorie) Eastridge and Christy Vertrees; a brother, Pat (Donetta) Eastridge; a sister, Patty Chaudoin; seven grandchildren, Caleb (Kimberly) Eastridge, Hillary (Josh) Taylor, David (Audrey-Anna) Durham, Morgan Durham (Drew), Layla Vertrees (Brantley), Lillian Vertrees, Lacey Vertrees and eight great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia with Bro. Joe Weber officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
