Long winded, I know!! But worth the read (I think).
So we met up with a bunch of family and friends in early July for a birthday party and a very dear and longtime friend asked if I could make her something. For those who know me, my immediate response was “No”. I then said “what are thinking about”? She relayed a story to me about her dad, who had passed away in January of this year & she wanted something with a rainbow 🌈 in it. I was extremely honored that she asked me but I told her that I had never done anything like that but I would love to try to do something special for her!! So, I start pouring the 1st color of a rainbow the next day. A week and half later I had the full rainbow out of the form but still have to find a nice piece wood . I chose a piece of white oak. Another 2 week process to prepare the wood to place the rainbow in. Now I have to bend a 2-1/2” wide x 1-1/4” thick x 24” long piece of epoxy to match the curve of the cut in the wood. WOW!!! Bending a wide piece of epoxy is hard and time consuming!! Between heating the piece up with a torch and allowing the sun to do the rest of the heavy lifting, 3 days later, it was finally glued up!! Due to the fact that her dad had lived in Hawaii and finally landing if Florida, I decided to carve out a little “coastline” on the bottom and add some blue epoxy for a nice ocean look to it.
Here are the end results. I hope y’all like it as much I had fun building it!!!
