A special 3d carved memorial plaque for a friend’s father’s “Celebration of Life”.
He was a lifelong Scouter and retired Scouting Executive of over 30 years, so I wanted to try to honor a part of his story. Combination of CNC, laser engraving, and good old-fashioned hand-carving. Each little artistic element tried to tell part of his story…
The fluted edges around the emblem, stylized to resemble the hand-chipped obsidian arrowheads we’d see at Scout camp.
The 3d emblem, carved with topographic lines, like the maps we had to learn how to read.
The plaque, drawing to mind the Woodbadge leadership toggles — the sign of a Leader of Leaders — and featuring a quote by Lord Baden-Powell that truly represented the kind of life this father tried to live.
Even the choice of materials was connected to the land where he was from — California Cherry, Northern White Maple, and Olive wood I harvested myself, just up the street from his own home.
He lived his life in service to others, and our lives are enriched all the better for having known him. 💛
