Before we could rebuild this pond, we had to figure out exactly what wasn't working.

So many different facets to this project.
We were honored to collaborate with the Potawatomi Zoo on this build inside their animal enclosures. From the rockwork and water features to creating spaces that needed to work for the animals and look natural for visitors, this was definitely a project outside of our everyday builds.

A little algae on a newly built pond? Completely normal.
New ponds need time for the ecosystem and beneficial bacteria to get established, and an algae bloom can be part of that process. We keep an eye on water quality, make sure the filtration is doing its job, and use the right treatments when needed to help the pond find its balance.
The goal isn't to throw a bunch of chemicals at it. It's to get the ecosystem working the way it should.

Shining a little spotlight on this sweet pond we built a few years ago.
We love getting to look back at projects once they've had some time to settle in. The plants have grown, the pond has matured, and it feels like it's been part of the landscape for years.
Still one of our favorites.

Back at this recently completed pond to put the finishing touches on the surrounding landscape.

The goal was low maintenance from the start. Clean planting beds, simple plant choices, and plenty of open space around the rockwork so you can actually see and enjoy the pond.

Everything makes sense now and will grow in great.

You may remember this pond we shared a few weeks ago. Now the landscaping around it is finished too.

The goal here wasn't to fill every open space with plants. We kept the landscaping simple and low maintenance, using just enough to soften the stonework while keeping the focus where it belongs, on the water feature.

As everything grows in, it will feel even more established without turning into a jungle.

From an empty space to a backyard escape in just 10 seconds. 💧
Of course, the real build takes a little longer, but it's always amazing to watch the transformation happen. Every boulder, every stream, and every detail comes together to create a waterfall that looks like it has always belonged there.
