Just an FYI: The New York Times reported that there are 2,470 independent bookstores in the US this year, up from 1,651 in 2009, and sales at ABA member stores were up 5 percent so far this year over last.

At Barnes & Noble...not so much. But even that might change.

Sales are falling and critics say the company lacks a direction, sometimes seeming to give priority to sales of gifts and tchotchkes over books.
