LEARN HOW TO HUSH!!! When you’re working, you may hear and see things. I’ve watched countless singers and other creatives lose their high-profile positions because they were not SAFE to keep around. Private Information gets leaked, unreleased work gets posted, gossip begins, people get messy and artists think “if they’ll speak this openly or negatively, how could I trust them?” Unless someone is being or may be HARMED, learn how to be a safe space or you become a liability.

Yep, I know. It’s tempting. They’re working so hard, they are talented, they saved you from a burning building, they’ll be mad a you… Been there!
I’m not saying NEVER hire friends! Now that I’m TRUSTED, I absolutely do!
I’m saying IF they can, know WHEN they should and should NOT. Also, make sure these “friends” RESPECT you enough to show up well (and want to make you look good). Some of your “friends” want your spot, some are not ready YET & some are not professional. Be honest.

ALWAYS LOOK GOOD! You will eliminate yourself before you even begin if you ran into the person that could make all your dreams come true and you look busted! You don’t have to have your face BEAT down with a gown on. Wear the sweats, but do your hair! Clean your shoes! Even casual, look like a star! No makeup in the airport, put those cute sunglasses on! Accessorize! PRESENTATION MATTERS!

EVERY GIG IS AN AUDITION FOR THE NEXT! Whether you’re headlining at a stadium or singing for a 2 year old’s birthday, bring the same energy, attitude, professionalism, integrity, preparation and level of skill! If you can’t or won’t execute at 100%, just politely say “No, thank you!” and leave room for someone who will respect the opportunity. How we treat the small gig is the way we are visualized for/on the big ones.

Now look, state your price. The rates and conditions should be what YOU deem fair at your level and for the space you are in, but if you AGREE, SHOW UP FULLY. Otherwise, your integrity & name are on the line. Before you burn a bridge, get off of it!

Comparison is a LIAR! There are doors waiting for YOU to start BEING YOU so that your unique, specific gift reaches those it’s meant for. If we try doing like others’ we miss the space that was made for US.

We met up with the Washington DC Members of our SINGERS’ SANCTUARY community and had the most beautiful time! Sometimes we sing, but it’s ultimately about watering and growing in ALL the ways necessary, in a SAFE space. We laughed, cried, shared and left not only inspired, but with next moves and plans of action for thriving careers in music! …and did we mention we ended the night with a PJ Morton concert?! 🤯 WHERE ELSE DOES THIS HAPPEN?! lol A TIME WAS HAD!!!
