One of ours is mahalo. Most people know it means “thank you,” but it also expresses gratitude, appreciation and respect. It’s more than a word. It’s a heartfelt way to acknowledge the kindness and aloha someone has shared with you. 💕

🌺 Sunday Tips from The Hawaiian Hoosier 🌺

Lumpia, egg rolls and wontons may look similar, but each one brings something different to the table!

Lumpia can be filled with pork, chicken, beef or vegetables. There are even sweet versions like Turon, a Filipino dessert made with banana wrapped in a thin lumpia wrapper and fried until golden and crispy. 🍌

You’re probably familiar with crab rangoons, but in Hawaiʻi, we also love Gau Gee! These crispy, Chinese-style wontons are traditionally filled with seasoned ground pork, shrimp or a combination of both, then folded and fried until perfectly crunchy.

Wonton wrappers can hold all kinds of delicious fillings, from savory to sweet, and we have a few ideas cooking! Keep watching for special wonton creations and Turon coming to The Hawaiian Hoosier this fall. 🤙

It’s Japanese/Okinawan Donut Day, and we’re celebrating with one of our favorite treats, fresh Andagi.

These warm, sweet island bites are crunchy on the outside and cake-like on the inside, and they were even featured on WISH-TV on 7/29/26. (Link below)
