Although my fabulous foundation crew did their job backfilling, it was my turn to prepare the area for planting. Spent the past couple days wrestling clumps of clay and rock of all sizes (hmmm, as I excel at hauling 5 gallon buckets myself, perhaps I need a title!) Finally able to smooth out the surface for black dirt, I found seven buckets didn't even make a dent. No worries, more is on the way. After all, I did not come this far, only to come this far. 😎 And Phase 3 starts this week.

Phase 2: Day 12 - even the rain couldn't stop the mucho masters of manual labor from completing the job. After rolling black waterproofing gunk over the block (been there, done that, no thanks!), sparks fly as holes are drilled in the top layer of block. Next up the concrete pump (or should I say a joining of two machines) Cemstone is back, funneling concrete into the pumper bin. Keeping a close watch as the crew fills the holes, the pump operator uses a remote control to regulate the speed of flow while the able body men manage the heavy hose. After the block is finally filled, the clean up water is dumped into the pump bin and recycled back into the Cemstone truck (how cool is that!) As the cement & pumper trucks leave, the rain picks up, but these Rockstars continue on, backfilling, grading and hauling away the excess blocks and debris. With the wall now complete there's one final photo. Adios my amazing muddy amigos! Best wishes on your next job (and less rain!) 👏👏👏 (make sure to check out the videos)

Phase 2: Day 9, 10 & 11 - When I briefly checked in Friday morning the concrete conquerors were beginning to lay block, completing 6 rows by the time I was able to return after the festival Saturday night. Monday I was treated to a unique technique of getting blocks from outside the foundation into the basement - one mighty man would slide each block down a ramp made from a 2x8 board to another mighty man in the basement who caught and stacked it (darn, forgot my phone so I missed that impressive video!) With the block now installed, the concrete pumps will arrive on Saturday and these masters of manual labor will no doubt show off their supreme shoveling skills as they backfill, re-grade and finish Phase 2!

A brief break from the concrete conquerors as I took on the Mpls Monarch Festival on Saturday. Wonderful weather, plenty of patrons and my magnificent costumed crew made this a truly special event. A HUGE THANK YOU to my monarch teammates - Rita, Gwen, Jayna, Carrie, Laurie & Kay who helped run my booth. I truly couldn't have done it without you! 🥰🥰🥰
