As Peace Works nears its closing, the gift shop continues to highlight various products, artwork, and many interesting items from local artists and third world countries. My mission has always been to promote peace by supporting those who make a difference. Here’s a little background on the “Bubs & Dickies” tee shirts created by artist Ellen Connoyer Case. Ellen’s copyrighted design of various faces enhanced the tees with one of her sayings, like “Same but Different”. However, Ellen visited the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Atlanta, GA, and learned more about how this “Hotel of Hope” in 1967 allowed (unlike other hotels) civil rights leaders to hold their meetings. On the 50th anniversary, a visual poem was written and performed by Tarriona Ball. An excerpt from the poem read “When people come together and allow their commonalities to supersede their differences . . .“ Ellen took all of her remaining tee shirts back to the printer and added part of that phrase. She has a very limited supply at Peace Works and has reduced the price to $10. Pick one up while they last!
