🐔🥚 Did You Know You Can Feed Eggshells Back to Your Chickens?
Before you toss those eggshells in the trash — save them for your flock!
Eggshells are packed with calcium, which laying hens need to produce strong, healthy shells. If your girls are laying regularly, they’re constantly using up calcium from their bodies. Giving crushed shells back to them helps replenish what they’ve lost.
Here’s how to safely do it:
✔️ Rinse the shells
✔️ Let them dry completely (you can bake at 200° for 10 minutes to sanitize)
✔️ Crush them into small pieces — don’t leave them looking like whole shells
✔️ Offer free-choice in a separate dish
Crushing them well prevents chickens from recognizing them as “eggs,” which helps avoid egg-eating habits.
It’s simple, sustainable, and saves money on supplements! ♻️
