I am cranking out some more 3D models this morning. And pondering.

This mold failure is the motivation for me to transition to Linux CNC. The 2 arrows must line up for the plastic to flow through the runner. The runner on the left, pointed at by the right arrow, is about a quarter inch higher than it should be. This was the new Dodge interior with the pistol grip shifter. Ruined after about 9 hours or so.

This could be the result of a variety of reasons. The main culprit in the past has been failed or weakening CMOS battery or some Windows item in the background taking priority for a micro second. This is because apparently on Windows a virtual clock is set up within Mach 3 and it can be dropped in priority while Microsoft scrambles for some way to monetize everything. My CNC computers are not online but I think what happens is that many programs try to pop over and look for updates. My joystick to keystroke program asks me for a donation at least once a month. And there are many background things running in addition to the X mouse and joystick to key stroke programs.

Linux CNC wipes the entire PC and gives it a single purpose in life. Keep track of time down to the tiniest fraction of a second. No solitaire, email or anything else. No checking to updates or spamming me to buy some crap. It is like a Terminator except for looking for John Conner it simply watches the clock and makes sure steps run exactly as planned. At least that is what it claims to do. And it is free. There will be a learning curve for while.

My home made CNC controller box. It has evidence of the exact moment my label maker stopped working. I need a second one someday for the little machine. It is kind of fun running a single point cutter with a joy stick and watching metal fly. Almost like Pac Man.

The Linux conversion seemed simple at first but there are a lot of drivers and systems that need more work than expected. Just this box being configured was a bit of a challenge. The keyboard had to have hot keys set, the thumb mouse needs buttons are changed because the left click is buried in the box. The joystick and its buttons all go to specific orders in Mach 3.

Today is the end for Mach 3 on my machines. Mach 3 support ended in 2014. It only works on 32 bit operating systems and I am running it on Windows XP. A version Microsoft refused to support.

I am prepping for some big projects and dealing with mold ruining Mach 3 glitches has grown tiresome. Lost an interior tray mold on one of the final steps due to a clocking glitch. I have over 100 concept models sorted and need to get really precise with tiny bits.

So here we go again. Linux seems to be the go to. At least the price is great. I found a 100% off deal that never expires and requires no code.

I also finally made a blog update on the web site. There is a neat intro now too.

AI imagines me at work. I think this will be my youtube video intro. There are 2 I like that it made.

I started milling some metal after many months. Layout the dodge parts again. It will take 2 molds instead of 1 but that is OK.

I keep trying to sort the correct scale and proportions. It is not a simple process. A comparison pic from Battle Masters to 6th edition.

I have been talking to AI and it is going to help with my next battle report video. Mainly, when a decision arrives i will explain it and allow AI to decide what to do. Could be interesting.

The Nascar project is done and now Brad has abruptly quit the team rendering the #6 car obsolete. And of course there is the tragedy of Kyle Busch. But I am glad it is finished. I think the old playoff system was bit more exciting. I understand that one bad tire call can lose a championship under the old system but I kind of like that tension.

On another subject, check out these renders. On the left of the render is a $.25 image. It came with multiple angles. On the right is a $.08 image. I am pretty sure they pulled a bait and switch and put the $.08 image on to a Commodore 64 based system. I think the extra seventeen pennies was worth it.

I would strongly suggest if you want any super cheap model designs get them done ASAP before the AI companies collapse or have to dramatically raise prices. They are going up already. I am an economic idiot and can see their business model is not sustainable.
I have had no luck getting cars made however. They smash together a random set of parts or make the car look terrible.

Today I made about 20 nice models for a couple bucks. (so far, it is early) In the future who knows if the ability will even be there. I watched a full length sci fi film on Youtube last night that was made by 1 person. It had some plot holes I will admit, but I have seen worse. Not sure why the heroine chose to fight in spiked high heels though. Considering the rough terrain and all.

If I can not get plastic Amazon figures to work out I will release the entire supported STL library I have made for free. I have to reduce the mesh count and repair the mesh for each one before printing. And I add my own supports manually because I hate breaking off tons of supports. I just hate 3D printing and think it is toxic and a pain.

The shields designs look OK. The hope is to make them look like they looted some lizardmen that they just wiped out. My pile of projects includes a lizardman army I purchased during covid to help my local FLGS. Now I look at it and ask myself what was I thinking.

Lots of projects all in motion all the time. Hobbies are great to have.

My odd health issues are slowing me down a bit. They stopped me from painting much because my vision is off.

I might post about that someday. I just do what I can at a slower pace than normal. Which actually was already slow.

Hope everyone has been doing well.

After quite a bit of trial and error the Ai is getting better at heroic scale. Previously the images looked good but the minis look quite frail. With the right key words they are getting to match well with my Oldhammer style. This was my goal, something that would not look out of place in 3rd-6th edition. Notice how the weapons, hands, heads and feet are all "chunky". In fact that is the number one keyword I am using.

I also FINALLY got the dash to fit in the Charger. The tray is still hitting the motor so it needs yet another revision. It is amazing how little space there is inside an inline slot car for a driver tray. I may just forget about it since Carrera has stopped making the Torino/Charger for vintage Nascar. So why try to make something fit a chassis that no longer exists?

We raced the new Carrera next gen cars and they performed terribly. I took some measurements and will have fresh tires for them soon. I am currently doing a restock of bases and will switch to rubber once they are piled up.

Fall is here and there is a long, cold, snowy winter to look forward to. Be sure not to run out of hobby projects.

Lots of issues here. These 4 parts would be better as individual items due to the difficulty painting them when produced as a single piece. Same problem in the rear. Back the drawing board I guess. The engine decals are really tough to fit in to that tiny wedge. I made 440 only. No hemi yet.

I do like it though. I will ponder this a bit and see it it is worth the trouble to paint the pieces or make all those parts. Each part takes space in the mold. Lots to think about.

That liquid silver chrome paint is really nice stuff. Fusion Firm Ultra Shining Fluid Silver Foil. Long name but it does look like chrome.
