Hello friend and neighbors:

As we posted last week, before we make a decision on closing The Mercantile entirely we are exploring something we would truly love to see happen — selling Cameron County Mercantile to someone local who would like to continue the shop and keep it serving the community.

Of course, vendors (have been notified) will always have the option to pick up their items if they prefer, and we will coordinate pickup dates and times if that becomes necessary.

Cameron County Mercantile only existed because of the amazing people who trusted us with their items and supported the idea behind the shop. That support has meant more to us than we can put into words.

If you — or someone you know —might enjoy carrying the Mercantile forward, please feel free to share this page with them:

We would truly love to see it stay part of the community!

With heartfelt thanks,

Hello Friends!

We wanted to share an update about the shop and about some changes in our lives.

As many of you know, Horacio lost his job last year, which is what brought us to Pittsburgh in the first place. We didn’t leave Cameron County because we wanted to — we came here simply trying to find work and figure out what the next chapter might look like.

For a while it looked like we might be coming back home. Then something unexpected happened.

Last year I had applied for a position with the American Heart Association and had completely forgotten about it until February, when they contacted me for an interview. One conversation led to another, and I’ve now been offered the position and will be starting on March 23.

It’s an incredible opportunity and truly something of a dream job, so we’ve made the decision to stay in Pittsburgh. As much as I love the Mercantile, that also means I won’t have the time to continue running the shop the way it deserves.

Before closing it entirely, though, we are exploring something we would truly love to see happen — selling Cameron County Mercantile to someone local who would like to continue the shop and keep it serving the community.

Of course, vendors (have been notified) will always have the option to pick up their items if they prefer, and we will coordinate pickup dates and times if that becomes necessary. Nothing has been decided yet, but we wanted to share the update and say thank you.

We had to wait for a few months until local vendors decided to renew or terminate their current lease. But finally secured a spot this weekend.
