WE DID IT!!!!!!
These people made it HAPPEN today.

We have never been so grateful to and humbled by those that showed up. Sometimes all you have to do is say you need help. 🥰
We knocked it out with time to spare and we even had to send troop kids home before 3 because there wasn’t any more work for them to do.
🙌🏻📦📦💪🏻

We will be cleaning the next couple of days and then on to whatever life calls us to next…including much-needed family time and continued healing.

EDIT: We will be working again tomorrow (Tuesday) starting at 9am. There are still a few books to be packed and we will be loading the truck with what is already packed and then unloading at Hospice. We will take all the loading and unloading help we can get. Many hands make light work! 😁

We will be here working for a long while still. Please feel free to stop in and pack a box or two. Even if you only have an hour we can use you.

We have not gotten the physical help from young men that we had expected so we will likely be renting a moving truck and loading it in the morning.
We could truly truly use help loading and unloading it.

Please understand you are helping Hospice Circle of Love with their fall fundraiser book sale as much, or more, than you’re helping us.

🚨‼️SHARE SHARE SHARE ‼️🚨

Many hands make light work and we need YOU to help lighten the load! 😁
We have had so many offers of help and so many that have said “tell us what you need”, so we are taking up those offers.

We plan to box up and donate books to Hospice Cirlce of Love on Monday the 26th and desperately need volunteers to make it happen. We very literally have 10s of thousands of books left on shelves and in boxes.

We would love anyone that can come starting at 9am Monday and we plan to work until it is finished or 3pm…whichever comes first.

We need:
•SMALL size moving boxes or similar
•tape dispensers for packing tape (we have tape but not enough dispensers for multiple volunteers)
•Volunteers able to pack boxes
•Volunteers to seal and move boxes to the loaders
•Volunteers to bring down boxes from the upstairs areas
•Volunteers to bring trucks and/or trailers and drive the books over to hospice.
•Volunteers to load and unload the trucks and trailers at both locations

We ask that all volunteers be 13 or over and able to work. Anyone under 18 must be with a parent or guardian, or a member of a troop earning service hours and under the supervision of a troop adult.

We appreciate the love and support from the incredible community of book lovers in Enid and have enjoyed this past week with you. We would love one more day to work and laugh with you before we close our doors. ❤️

Hi everyone!
I wanted to pop in and let you know that Jim’s surgery on Monday went really well and he got to come home yesterday.
It was a pretty brutal surgery and he’s got a road to recovery ahead of him. But, he’s beyond strong. His nurse came out to help him into the truck said she’s never had a 360 fusion patient walk themselves out of the hospital.
So, yeah… he’s that guy. 😉😊

PLEASE NOTE: We are working a couple of possible angles to hopefully keep the bookstore here in town for you…😁

While we work on that and getting Jim through the next couple of weeks of recovery, we will NOT be open and NOT having the sale on the 24th-25th.
IF we close we will post details on sales and use of credit.
IF we come to an agreement (pray the landlord will consent to the potential plan) then the store will reopen with new owners. 🙏🏻🙏🏻😁📚❤️📚

The time has finally come for us to announce that we will be closing the bookstore at the end of this month. 😔

We know how disappointed you will all be, but please know we have done everything we can in the background to stay open or find another owner to keep it open.
The truth is that a used bookstore is just not a money-maker and no one wants it. Everything in business is driven by the bottom dollar and the potential.
We opened as a service to the community and not as a source of income for our family. We are book lovers and wanted to see that same love rekindled in other families and new generations, even in the digital age.
We found ourselves in a unique position to not NEED the income from the store and to be able to carry it as it got off the ground. And it was definitely getting off the ground. We had plans to open up the wall between us and the bakery and we were fielding possibilities for a coffee shop to come in since the kitchen is already plumbed for machines.
We had dreams of bringing 3 local businesses together to create a bookstore for Enid that the big corporations won’t.
But….life set us on a different course the last 6 months and especially the last 2. We have NO regrets other than that we won’t be able to keep our little gem of a shop open and play with the books and meet others that love them as much as we do.
Every door opened for our family to start this bookstore and we don’t doubt that it was the right thing at the time, even if we don’t understand why doors are closing now.
One of the many indicators has been the constant road blocks to even being open on Fridays and Saturdays and the constant changing of timelines with situations utterly out of our control.
Jim was to have his back surgery this past Tuesday but his surgeon was in a car accident Monday morning. You just can’t make that up. His new surgery date is 3/13, but even a two week change puts a huge financial burden on our family for carrying the store that much longer. With so many unknowns ahead of us with rehab and future surgeries, we decided the best course of action is to go ahead and close.
If you know of anyone who doesn’t need the income and is interested in a dream bookstore that pays its own bills and has room to grow, tell them to contact us (serious inquiries that would be ready to start taking over in less than two weeks), otherwise sales will start March 24th.
Thank you for all of your love and support and offers to help. If we even had the time and energy to train volunteers we would. We are just at the end of our emotional, energetic, and financial rope. It has been a wonderful 2 years and if things were different at home we’d be looking at many more with all of you. We will always love our book friends. ❤️📚❤️

UPDATES:

📕We will be open Fridays (12-6pm) and Saturdays (10am-3pm) ONLY for the foreseeable future.

📗We will NOT be taking books for donation or trade.
Please take them to Hospice Circle of Love (314 S. Third St.) for their fundraiser book sale they do twice a year.

📘You may now use 100% trade credit toward book purchases. Merchandise is still excluded.

📙We have SO MANY books we’ve brought in to get moved out. They are not sorted or individually priced. This is what you used book junkies are looking for….the great “find” could be in here. 😉

📚Unpriced books are:
$3 hardbacks and $1.50 paperbacks.
We will refill shelves during the week as we have time and every weekend will have new treasures to hunt out. 📚✨📚

We are sorry to say that we will be closed until further notice. 😔

Many of you know that Bookman Jim served 22 years in the Army, but what you may not know is that he was seriously injured in Iraq in 2004. He has had two fusions in his neck due to a broken neck he suffered during a building collapse. Complications from those injuries and surgeries have come to a place we can no longer ignore.
Among other issues he will be having 3 vertebrae in his lower back fused and once that is healed and therapy finished, he will likely be having another cervical fusion and additional treatments to strengthen the previous fusions.
In total, he is looking at nearly a year of surgeries, recovery, and physical therapy.
He is also coming completely off of pain medications in order for the spine team to be able to manage his pain after surgery and that brings on its own issues as well as a renewal of pain in his back and neck.
He is as strong and confident as ever, but this is a daunting road for anyone.

Once we have figured out the surgery and pre-op schedule, and have determined who is available to cover the store, we will let you know our reopening date and the new hours.

We appreciate your continued patience and understanding. We also appreciate all your prayers and well wishes.
This was not something any of us saw coming or could have anticipated.
