Sometimes we seriously question ourselves…

WHY DO WE EVEN TRY SO HARD?! 🤦‍♀️😂

We buy the merchandise.
We clean it.
We inspect it.
We test it.
We make sure it's actually worth putting on our shelves.

Because we want to offer y'all the CLEANEST, BEST-TESTED THRIFT FINDS we possibly can.

And then…

THURSDAY HAPPENED. 💀😂

A dad walked in with his child, and apparently that child had been assigned ONE VERY IMPORTANT MISSION:

🎯 DESTROY THE FLIPP’N SOUTH.

First came the toy.

Not play with it.

Not gently inspect it.

Nope.

SLAM THAT THING INTO EVERYTHING IN SIGHT. 💥🤣

Then came the books.

One book?
No.

Two books?

Absolutely not.

GRAB THEM AND START SLINGING THEM EVERYWHERE. 📚💨😂

And Dad?

Standing there.

Watching.

Observing.

Taking it all in.

Like he had front-row seats to Cirque du Soleil: Thrift Store Edition. 🎪🤣

Meanwhile, we're looking at our shelves thinking…

“SIR… ARE YOU SEEING THIS?” 👀😂

And let's not forget the sign:

🚨 PLEASE DO NOT PLAY WITH THE TOYS. 🚨

That sign isn't there because we hate fun.

It's there because WE CLEAN AND TEST EVERYTHING.

We don't want somebody else's child coming behind yours and grabbing a toy that has just been slammed into the floor, a shelf, three books and possibly the next county. 😂

We work HARD to keep our merchandise clean, tested and inspected.

So yeah…

Sometimes after an experience like that, we stand there and wonder:

“Why do we even bother?” 😩😂

Then we remember…

💡 THE POWER BILL:
Came in HIGHER.

Because apparently cutting back on things we actually USE was just a cute little suggestion to Alabama Power. 🤣

We turned stuff off.
We cut back.
We tried to be responsible.

Alabama Power said:
“That’s adorable. Here’s your bill.” 💀😂

🥛 THE SCHOOL MILK SITUATION:
Our son got one of those little cartons of milk…

…and apparently that milk had been through something. 😳😂

Let’s just say it was CHUNKY.

Now he would like to bring his OWN WATER BOTTLE to lunch.

Seems reasonable, right?

WRONG. 😂

Apparently, we need a DOCTOR’S NOTE for this dangerous act of hydration. 🤦‍♀️

Sir… he wants WATER.

Not a controlled substance.
Not a flamethrower.
Not a double cheeseburger.

WATER. 💧😂

🧸 AND THEN THERE’S THE TOYS…

Yes, we have toys.

Yes, they are cleaned.
Yes, they are tested.
Yes, we make sure they aren't nasty, broken, or one battery away from starting a small electrical fire. 😂

Which is EXACTLY why our signs say:

Because apparently some grown humans read that sign and think…

Who walk through the door like they're entering the final round of The Hunger Games. 😂

You don't know what you're looking for.

You don't know what you're going to find.

You just KNOW...

SOMETHING IS IN HERE. 😏

You start digging.

You start searching.

You start moving things around.

Suddenly you've found a $6 treasure you've been convinced you couldn't live without for the last 14 seconds.

Then you hear:

“OH MY GOD! LOOK WHAT I FOUND!”

And immediately your head snaps around like a meerkat. 🐹😂

Because now you NEED to know what they found.

That's thrifting.

It's the adrenaline.

The excitement.

The possibility that the next aisle contains the exact thing you didn't know you were looking for.

And that's okay!

Have you ever gone thrifting or yard-saling with your kids and they find THAT ONE TOY they absolutely, positively, without a doubt CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT?

“PLEASE MOMMMMM! I NEED IT!” 😭

So you buy it.

You get home.

You open the battery compartment and discover that the batteries have apparently been in there since the invention of electricity. 🔋💀

Battery acid has exploded, multiplied, formed its own government and annexed the entire compartment.

Your child is standing there looking at you like:

“WHY DID YOU LET ME BUY THIS?” 😭😂

Then there’s the stuff you find covered in so much dust that you think:

“OH MY GOD… I HAVE DISCOVERED A RARE 100-YEAR-OLD ANTIQUE STATUE OF PRINCE CHARLES!” 👑

You take it home.

You carefully clean off the mysterious historical dust.

And suddenly…

IT’S A TOAD. 🐸

Not Prince Charles.

Not an antique.

Not even remotely valuable.

JUST A DAMN TOAD. 😂😂😂

And we absolutely CANNOT forget the greatest yard-sale sales pitch of all time:

“Oh yeah, it runs GREAT!”

Translation:

✨ It only needs a battery.
✨ It only needs a motor.
✨ It only needs a carburetor.
✨ It only needs a transmission.
✨ It only needs four tires.
✨ It only needs an engine.
✨ It only needs a small miracle from Jesus himself. 🙏😂

And somehow they still say:

“It'll be an easy fix.”

And I’m pretty sure my toaster just needs a new transmission. 😂
