It’s time. For long now, perhaps years, I have been listening to the desire to be untethered from this thing called social media. I feel in me a call to move away, to cast aside the pulls of checking messages daily, to shake off the ever present frustration of trying to figure out the algorithm lords who rule here.
My husband, Sam, and I (Miriam) have 5 children and a farm and business to tend to. We homeschool, we garden, we keep bees, we love reading, we enjoy traveling, we are involved in the local church, the local fire company, and local politics. There is much to be done, and short are the years.
Maybe my desire for disentangling is because I am not very disciplined with social media use. Every time I see how much time was spent on here, I cringe. Maybe the desire is deepened because of the inability to know what is real and what is not. AI has taken over and I refuse to participate. And community! What has happened to community?
I remember the day when I didn’t have social media. I was more aware, more present, much less distracted, had much less brain clutter, and was generally happier and more productive.
Yes, social media is a useful tool. No, our business won’t potentially go viral with only emails. The truth is, we don’t need Instagram or Facebook. Our business is thriving and growing faster than we ever dreamed.
The plan is to go on a social media sabbatical for the entire year of 2026. (There may be occasional reposts of events we plan to do. Our events schedule will also be listed on the website.) If at the end of the year we find ourselves better off, we may disengage entirely.
We plan to use email as our primary means to communicate business updates, offers, and farm news. If you want to bee in the loop, we invite you to join the thousands of others on our list. We send fun emails and promise to not spam you.
