π¨ BIG CHANGES ARE COMING TO 710 GLASS & V***R β AND NOT BY OUR CHOICE! π¨
Starting October 19th, Pennsylvania's Act 57 will severely limit the ni****ne products we are legally allowed to carry.
And honestly, we have A LOT to say about it.
We believe this law is absolutely ridiculous. From our perspective, it feels like another example of the rich getting richer while small, independently owned businesses are left paying the price.
Take a look at Pennsylvania's approved product directory. The selection heavily favors products associated with major to***co companies. There are even products listed specifically for correctional facilities!
And we're supposed to believe this is all about protecting children?
Let's talk about that for a second.
JUUL faced massive lawsuits and settlements over allegations that its marketing targeted young people. Yet high-strength ni****ne products continue to be sold, including products containing 5% ni****ne.
Years ago, many of our customers were perfectly happy using ni****ne strengths like 0.3% and 1%. There were plenty of options for people who wanted to gradually lower their ni****ne intake.
Now the market is dominated by high-strength disposable devices.
Someone who has never smoked a cigarette can start using a 5% disposable and develop a serious ni****ne dependence.
And here's something else we want people to think about...
Do you really think the person behind the counter at a gas station is going to explain exactly how much ni****ne is in that disposable you're purchasing? Explain ni****ne strengths, compare them to ci******es, or help you find a lower-ni****ne alternative?
Or are they just going to ring it up and send you on your way?
At 710, we have ALWAYS been about educating our customers on what they're putting into their bodies.
We don't want to just sell you something. We want you to understand what you're using.
So let's break down the ni****ne numbers, because I don't think enough people realize what 5% actually means.
π¬ A traditional cigarette:
A cigarette contains roughly 10β12 mg of ni****ne in its to***co. However, because of how smoking and ni****ne absorption work, the average smoker typically absorbs approximately 1β2 mg per cigarette.
That means someone smoking a full pack of 20 ci******es a day generally absorbs around 20β40 mg of ni****ne.
π¨ Now let's look at a 5% ni****ne v**e:
5% ni****ne means approximately 50 MG PER MILLILITER.
A small 2 mL pod contains approximately 100 MG OF NI****NE!
Now, that doesn't mean your body absorbs all 100 mg. Ni****ne delivery depends on the device, how frequently you use it, and several other factors.
But think about how much ni****ne is contained in that tiny little pod.
And how many people are purchasing these products without having any idea what those numbers actually mean?
THIS is why education matters!
Our goal at 710 has always been to help customers move AWAY from high-strength disposables and transition into refillable devices with lower ni****ne options.
We want people to have the ability to step down from 5% to 3%, 1%, 0.3%, and eventually even 0% if that's their goal.
We have spent years helping customers understand the products they're using and giving them choices that fit their needs.
Now, these restrictions threaten to eliminate many of those options, leaving independent shops and their customers with an extremely limited selection.
How does limiting lower-ni****ne refillable options while allowing high-strength products help people reduce their ni****ne dependence?
And while we're talking about protecting children, can we discuss the double standard?
We're constantly hearing about how va**ng products appeal to kids.
Meanwhile, the alcohol industry has products using familiar names like Mountain Dew, SunnyD and Brisk. Alcohol advertisements appear on billboards and in places where children can see them.
Apparently, putting the word "HARD" on a familiar drink brand makes all the difference?
We're not saying children should have access to va**ng products. Absolutely not. We support age restrictions and keeping ni****ne products out of minors' hands.
But we also believe regulations should be consistent, fair, and focused on actually reducing harm.
We're a small business.
We've spent years building relationships with our customers, educating them, and helping them find alternatives to ci******es and high-ni****ne disposables.
Now we're being told that many of those choices will no longer be available for us to sell.
We're frustrated. We're disappointed. And we know many of our customers will be, too.
To our customers:
Please be patient with our staff as we navigate these changes. We didn't make these rules, but we do have to follow them.
We will continue doing everything we can to provide education, answer your questions, and offer the products we're legally permitted to carry.
And to everyone who has supported us over the years, THANK YOU. β€οΈ
Supporting a locally owned business means more than you may realize, especially when laws like this threaten the future of independent shops.
Protecting kids matters. Educating consumers matters. Helping adults reduce their ni****ne dependence matters. And small businesses matter, too.
