My family & I really appreciate everyone's support and condolences during this time. We have been dealt numerous difficult blows during this--emotionally, financially, you name it. My dad never had a lot of money, we grew up struggling constantly to make ends meet and it wasn't any different at the end of his life. My dad also couldn't get an affordable life insurance policy due to being diagnosed as a Type 1 Diabetic as a child and the numerous health complications that come with that. The person who made several promises to handle his final expenses only contributed a portion of the funds after arguing with me that it should have been cheaper even though I did everything they requested--a direct cremation with no funeral services. The end came far sooner than any of us expected. I held my dad during the last hours of his life, making sure he wasn't in pain or alone. I thought this person had arrangements made for this when my dad got put on hospice care. I didn't think that after he passed in my arms I would be expected to then sit only feet away from his body while his nurse waited to find out what funeral home should be called and google the cheapest option instead of going with the funeral home that my family has always trusted to take care of our loved one's last journey.
Sorry to ramble, I just am exhausted in every way possible. If you can support the fundraiser in anyway it is really appreciated. The funds will go toward covering the cremation expenses and holding a celebration of life memorial for my dad. Anything raised beyond that will go to an account dedicated solely for his grandsons Emrys(9) and Ali(7) to help them with trauma & grief counseling as well as activities to keep them connected with their grandfather such as camping, going to the kids museum and trips to the zoo--all things that they loved doing with grandpa before he became too ill to do them anymore.
