The new bighorn lambs (5) came down to Sheep Lakes today. This was their first visit to lick minerals and micronutrients from the mud of the lakes. The visit was cut short by the approach of a hungry coyote. The 3 week old lambs were able to sprint with the flock to the safety of the hillside. 06/14/18 4:05pm. Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, Canon EF400mm f/4 DO IS II USM +1.4xiii, 1/1000s@f/5.6, ISO 640, lens focal length 560mm.

The key field mark to identify a bobcat (versus a lynx) is the white fur on his tail. (A lynx' tail would be all dark fur.) This bobcat is a fine specimen, although he didn't give me much time in the dawn moments. Canon 5D Mark IV, Canon EF400mm, f/4 DO IS II USM, 1/5/18 8:34am, 1/125s@f/4.0, ISO 3200, lens focal length 400mm.

This triptych showing the eclipse progression from Baily's beads to full corona to solar prominences has been a successful presentation. This appeals to many, but astronomers find this fascinating. If you would like a closer look, we currently have this displayed the Alpenglow gallery.

The Milky Way intercepts Long's Peak. Immediately after this photo, clouds moved in and it began to rain. But, it was a glorious scene up to that point. The Y camp shines in the valley on the lower left. Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC. 25s@f/2.8, ISO 2000, lens focal length 14mm., 05/25/17 1:38am.

Always my goal to get a mated pair in the same frame. It rarely happens, but I was lucky today. This is a mated pair of Western Bluebirds, after the snowstorm. Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, Canon EF400mm f/4 DO IS II USM +1.4xIII, 1/3200s@f/5.6, ISO 400, lens focal length 560mm, 03/28/2017 11:31am. Lake Estes, Estes Park CO. (This is v.2.)

Ruffled feathers in windswept conditions. Our majestic Estes Park Bald Eagle posed for me today. It was gusty, but he cooperated. Strong talons help. Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, Canon EF400mm f/4 DO IS II USM +1.4xIII, 1/1600s@f/5.6, ISO 400, lens focal length 560mm. 03/24/17 3:14pm.

Cabin fever in cold, icy, gloomy January has caused me to process a fresh image from September 23, 2016 7:04am. This was captured from the rock slide aspen window above the north end of Bear Lake. It reminds me to "hike while we can". Canon EOS 5DmIII, Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, [1/6s, 0.3s, 1/13s]/16, lens focal length 24mm, ISO 100.

This is my first photo of a Rough-legged Hawk (Buteo lagopus). I was at the coyote kill location along Bear Lake Road and this light adult female came to join the feast. This hawk is uncommon. Colorado is near the southern limits of its winter range. Summer range is Alaska, Northern Canada and the Arctic tundra. Today's climate in RMNP was definitely arctic-like. Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, Canon EF400mm f/4 DO IS II USM +1.4xIII, 1/3200s@f/5.6, ISO 400, lens focal length 560mm, 01/05/17 3:00pm.
