A couple in St. Louis just purchased this gently read second printing of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird. It's already in the hands of the USPS and en route to them. We love it when rare titles come to perch at Tsunami...and when we get to send them along to their next reader.

Facebook is suddenly changing. Overnight it appears Tsunami Books, which is a "Page," has to pay an exorbitant monthly fee to post links, which has been free since we joined in 2010.

Fundraising trickles along. Some days we raise $100, some days a couple thousand. We have at least 5 Fun(d)raisers either in the planning stage or on the calendar. It should be noted that both Viking Brewing (October 17) and The WOW Hall (no date or plan yet) have graciously offered us their venues for fun(d)raising. Ideas about the WOW Hall would be appreciated.

It is endlessly amazing for me (Scott) to see who is giving.
Your kindness and generosity run deep. We are always thankful to see it occur. You should know that anything you put into "The Tip Box" offers us counter-clerks good feelings that last all day, and beyond.

Whatever business model is built around acquiring the Tsunami property, the covenant to keep it in Books and Music, Local Arts and Crafts and Community, in perpetuity, is sacrosanct.

More than anything we at Tsunami are great believers in "The $10 Movement." We are continually coming up with fun new ideas about how to solicit 100,000 $10 donations. (Actually, 50,000 $10 donations would move the building into Tsunami's hands.)

For "The $10 Movement" to really work well, we somehow need to engage a lot of people, probably all over the country-- or world-- who think it a cool idea to give $10 toward a working-class, worker-owner Bookstore in Eugene, Oregon that has been around 31 years, and wants to keep the property out of the hands of billionaire developers who lust after this very special city block.

And once we complete this project, however we do it, "The $10 Movement" will continue to live, for other Community goals, in perpetuity:-)

There will be a Public Meeting, Thursday, October 8, from 7-8 (or possibly later) to see if there are people who want to play with ideas, and perhaps help in various ways. FYI, in 2017, when we learned we had to raise $300,000+ for escrow to continue renting, a meeting was called for December 28. 70 people showed. A committee of very interested folks was formed. Their direction was invaluable. And here we are, 9 years years into it, doing a little better every year, with good reason to continue to grow.

We here at Tsunami are not attached to any of the three possible (general) ways we see Tsunami can be purchased:
1) Raising the money as we are, Tsunami owning the property outright;
2) Forming a small, purpose-driven llc;
3) Or, by forming a new non-profit that would raise the funds, and rent to Tsunami, collaborating with our arts programs where applicable.

We think that #1 is to get the building, asap. Changing the legal structures can happen after the fact.

We are thankful to have many friends of the Bookstore.
Here's a special nod to two folks, Wendy and her daughter Kaitlin, who bring us painted stones, beautiful and intricate, known as "dragon eyes," which we generally keep by "The Tip Box" at the counter. Always it's a great pleasure to receive them, as I'm sure it is a great pleasure for Wendy to paint.
