Dear Pennye, my most sincere condolences and regret to hear of your grandfathers passing . He has left and indelible mark upon you, his entire family, and everyone else that ever had the pleasure to know him. I can't imagine how anyone else in today's world could ever possibly fill the void that his passing has created. Unless, of course, it would be you yourself!
Together, we shared many good times in our young days. If I had to mention the most amazing thing about Junior Martin’s life,
besides his amazing musical talent and craftsmanship, is how he accomplished everything he did by always following the principles of a gentleman. He will be sorely missed by so many !!

I wish we could ease the pain of your loss . We send you and , the entire Junior Martin family , our prayers and our love.

Hello, fall festival revelers! I just finished up a wonderful week of teaching musical things i know at Blackpot Camp. Now i am really looking forward to playing a set at Blackpot Festival at noon saturday morning in the schoolhouse. I will have a stellar group of musicians will me, joel and wilson Savoy, kelli jones, jane vidrine and very special guest, the host of Etown Radio show, Nick Forster! Come join us as we play our way through a very mixed set, from my new record to appalachia to vintage cajun!

Pretty excited to let you know that my appearance on etown radio show will be aired between Oct. 9-Oct. 15. In Lafayette, LA, the show comes on at 1 on Tuesdays so I figure my episode (with the epic Del McCoury Band) will air Oct. 15 on KRVS, 1PM. Please listen in! Just returned from an amazing visit to Boulder, Colorado, to appear of the show Etown! I did music from my new album Another heart (Smithsonian Folkways) with Nick and Helen Forstar, the show hosts and creators, and the Etown band. The legendary Del McCoury was the other act, and the 85 year old Del and family tore it up.Afterwards I went up in the mountains to visit my longtime friend, Sharon Arms. What a world, the atmosphere was so thin and the light so bright. Spectacular beauty! I'll let you now when the show will air. Forty five years ago a woman musician from California, Jeanie McLerie, came to Eunice to study the music of Dennis McGee. She was a very friendly, powerful, talented musician and inspired me, then 26 years old and feeling lost in Cajun country, to form an all woman's Cajun band. We would call it the Magnolia Sisters. We needed to find an accordion player and finally found Bois Sec's niece, Mary Jane Broussard , to play with us. We had a lot of fun and even played at Festival Acadien in 1980-I was pregnant with Joel. Jeanie lived in a little house house behind our house with her husband Ken Keppeler. Jeanie and Ken helped us fix up Marc's grandfather's house (where we live now), Jeanie would babysit, help me clean my house, teach me all kinds of songs, taught me how to make yogurt in a jar in the hot sun in my yard, lots of organic recipes-she was a master organic gardener and had even written a book on the subject. She sewed, made dolls and coats of many colors. Her daughter Nellie lived there, too, and she was a big part of our lives also. Jeanie's other musical groups at that time were The Delta Sisters (her with Frannie Leopold) and The Harmony Sisters (her with Alice Gerrard and Irene Herrman). These two group were fantastic and I got to hang out with all of these great women musicians as they came and went on our farm. Eric and Suzy Thompson would also come to stay with Jeanie and Ken in those days. Jeanie passed away yesterday, and it is hard to understand that she is gone. I will miss the idea that she is there, in her recent home in Silver City, New Mexico, creating brilliant mix tapes that she sent out every Christmas, writing songs, cooking up amazing Mexican meals, teaching fiddle to children, generally giving her all, all her creativity, to the world. We will all miss her so so much. We send her husband, Ken, our love and deep condolences.
