My season for gourds is drawing to a close. I will be starting to sale and closeout my. Raw gourd inventory, clean and unclean. And ALL the many different kinds of gourd decorations. Staying healthy while do your passion.. sounds great. I have hand painted gourds for 5 years. Admiring those of you that make the vases and lamps. After 2025 season was over my husband and I decided to start carving and drilling gourds for lamps. With in 6 weeks I have gradually started getting short of breathe..last week I went to the Dr. because I really was having a hard time breathing and chest pains. Then started looking up gourd dust....OMG!!! We have been drilling in our basement with now filter system or respirator. Dumb DUMB! I didnt know. I am writing this to please let people how important on whatever gourds please, please take safety instructions SERIOUSLY! Since I have been down sick I have found many excellent article's on "The Gourd Flu". It is REAL!!!!! I Have been in the hospital since last Wednesday, it will be a week tomorrow morning March 4th,2026. They still have not found out what is exactly wrong..I feel ok until I try to walk or stand. I dont even have the oxygen to talk. The Dr.'s agree the Gourd dust is a hugh part. We are praying this illness go away soon, if you are reading this you may research Gourd safety BEFORE drillin, craving and clean. Gourds are awesome, but as I am finding out the hard way extremely dangerous! Keep on gourding my gourdastic FRIENDS.
