Something that I really love about bookstore life is that we get to know so many regular customers. It’s especially interesting that there are quite a few regulars who don’t live in the area but visit often, and always come to Booklegger when they are here. It’s a treat to get to see our customers from far and wide.
Tricia and her daughter Finley, pictured here, live in Baltimore, Maryland, but visit Eureka every year to attend the Redwood Music Festival, along with Tricia’s parents and husband. We are delighted that they always
stop in to hunt for books in between performances when they are in our neck of the woods.
Tricia’s husband (Finley’s Dad) is a guitarist who enjoys attending Red Hot Strings, and intensive workshop and festival for jazz musicians in Port Townsend Washington. It was because some of his favorite teachers from the workshop also perform at the Redwood Coast Music Festival that the family started coming to our area. They have become attached to Humboldt and the festival, and have become friends with some of the performers, including Miss Jubilee, who is a favorite of Finley’s.
The family are clearly passionate about books and music. Both mother and daughter are dancers, and Finley also plays piano and guitar. She told me she’d like to learn violin next. I loved talking to them, and felt a real kinship with Finley, who is in fifth grade, and had a hard time conversing with me at first because she was so absorbed in a book she found in our kids chapter book section. Clearly, my kind of gal.
