We're back at Frankie’s NY Bagels !

We're running our Shop for a Cause with 20% of sales going to Clarke Historical Museum ✨️

We highlighted 3 exhibits going on NOW at Clarke.

The Victorian Era was a period of great loss, which paired with their insatiable curiosity for the unknown, lead to sweeping trends of séances, spiritualism, and the rise of occult mysticism.
Families would adopt decorative mourning jewlery, and many would also carry reminders with them that one day, they will die too.. Check out their displays of beautifully braided hairs worn as pendants or hung as art to remeber ones lost, how they would turn to the spiritual world to try and reach lost ones, and how they would learn to cope with the inevitable. 🔮💀✨️

Spider webs, spiders, Owls, and bats were seen as good fortunes or turned into talisman for good luck. We kinda took liberty on this category to show off some local species we adore 😂 BUT you can check out Owls and more in the Clarke's Bird Collection! 🦉

Touring Humboldt; The Golden Age of Redwood Highways! Scenice drives, tourist traps, and camping sights, oh my! Learn about the fascinating tourism culture that rose around this new wave of motorized tourist taking advantage of new roads to see the foreign and exciting redwood giant forests!🌲 🚗🌲

We're now in the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center! 🐸 Plus two new birds to celebrate 🪽

Thank you City of Arcata , Arcata Marsh , and Friends of the Arcata Marsh for working with us, and shout out to Rob Fowler for letting us use his Marsh Wren photography on our info cards! It was the inspiration behind the exact pose we used for this little wren perched on a cattail cob singing away 🎶

Walk the trails, check out all the amazing educational displays they have in the Interpretive Center, and maybe pick up a pair of earrings 👀

We got sirens all over Humboldt today! 🌿💪🌿

Trinidad Rancheria 's Ner-Er-Nerh Days is at the Trinidad Harbor California from 11AM - 4PM. Come enjoy the coastal sunshine and learn about our coast from a ton of educational booths..and ours! 🦦🐟

Fieldbrook Educational Foundation 's Art & W**e festival is at Fieldbrook W**ery from 11AM - 4:30PM. Come support the Fieldbrook Education Foundation, enjoy bomb BBQ, and check out all the adorable art and craft vendors around the lake.. including us 🤣

HCBA 's 3rd Annual Honey Tasting Festival is at Bear River Casino Resort 's Tish-Non community center from 12-5PM. Support the beekeepers in our own backyard while getting a taste tour of Humboldt's wildflowers via honey!

Normally we're beat after events, but some folks just had to came in with such cool ideas that we couldn't help it, and are already back in the studio to see how we can make them happen 👀

September is here, and with it the final day of summer on the 22nd! 🌞

We're enjoying the last of summer while we can, and getting ready for autumn in all its glory! 🍂

4th; We'll be at Arcata's Friday Night Market with Humboldt Made Friday Night Market | Eureka + Arcata & Arcata Chamber of Commerce.

5th; Arts Alive at The Clarke where you'll catch us sneaking off to check out their new exhibits 🔮

11th; This is the LAST Friday Night Market of 2026! We'll miss this weekly tradition, but we'll be counting down the days for next year's! 👏

12th; Catch us in Garberville enjoying the sunshine at the Eel River Wailaki

19th & 20th; we're back in Arcata for North Country Fair Arcata CA 🥳 We got some new pieces we've been working on that we're excited to share!

20th; A Very Victorian Tea & Tarot with Clarke Historical Museum & the Eureka Women's Club. Grab your tickets now to enjoy tea, harp music, tarot readings, Victorian parlor games, and so much more ☕️

26th; This day is gonna be a doozy! Our whole team is going to be across Humboldt 😂

- Our Siren of Insects (Alex) will be representing some local pollinators at the Humboldt Beekeeper's Honey Tasting Festival in Loleta 🐝

- Siren of Creativity (Diana) & Siren of Felines (Blayre) will be celebrating art with a wide range of our ecosystems at the Fieldbrook Art & W**e Fundraiser for Fieldbrook Educational Foundation 🎨

- Siren of Curiosity (Ana) & Siren of Aquatics (Jane) will be representing our coastal biodiversity with a focus on Trinidad's shores at Trinidad Rancheria 's Ner-Er-Nerh Days. We're taking inspection from all the amazing things to see at Trinidad Harbor California , and excited to dive in to learn about even more species 🌊

THANK YOU San Diego Natural History Museum | The Nat & Bugologist.Bichólogo🦎 for such an amazing Bugfest! I had a blast showing off some of the crazy bugs and slugs and more from our Nor Cal redwoods 🌲, as well as learning about the insects of the So Cal deserts 🏜

Perks of a 3 day museum event include;
- 🐝 Getting to talk to awesome groups like the California Native Bee Society and learning that you can vote for our State bee RIGHT NOW! Check out their page or website for the link to vote, and be part of history in selecting our new state mascot!

- 🦖Exploring all the exhibits which lead to a storm of inspiration between ideas for new pieces

- ♻️ Seeing the awesome work of The Washed Ashore Project and learning more ways we can design our upcoming open studio space while staying eco

- and learning all kinds of neat stuff! Prepare for even more waves of fun facts y'all 🤣

After the event I got to swing by the San Diego Zoo for further research on our next new wave of species 🐍
I may have gotten sidetracked along the way 😅 BUT did lead to the question if we should start making pieces for critters from other parts of the world? 🤔🌎

Despite being stuck in the worse traffic on the way back, it was all worth it because the extra day lead to the successful capture of this little rascal! Dee has been keeping him fed and alive in the building since he was abandoned, and told us the little she new about his history; how he had been abandoned at least a year ago and learned how to get between the floors of the building to escape capture (and vet visits!). While this curious guy loved to poke his head out to see what we get up to, he's quick to dart away. Luckily his love of tuna got the best of him, and now he's off to the vet to get up to date on shots and care. Once he's in good health (and his wall and floor holes covered), he'll be back to start a new loving life as our studio cat 🐈‍⬛️

Thank you everyone who has made this journey possible, and I can't wait to see how things continue to unfold! Here's to many more journey with familiar and new faces, and new beginnings for our little furry friend ✨️🌿🧚‍♀️

August is here, and with it comes the last of summer as we begin to see the autumn leaves being to show 🍂

We're still working on our new studio and plan to have a soft open during the Farmer's Markets on Thursday by September 🤞

Till then you'll see us popping up at our usual events, and August is an exciting one 😁

1st we start with Clarke Historical Museum at Arts Alive, set up in the giftshop next to our store display we painted to reflect their current exhibit "Touring Humboldt: The Golden Age of The Redwood Highway."

7th & 8th Ana & Diana are splitting up!

8th: Paskenta Mad River Brewing Company with Friends of the Dunes for our last Science on Tap: Summer Series.
FotD is having an exciting trivia night with a prize for the winner, Paskenta will be running their Pints for Nonprofit while we run our Shop for a Cause. Come and support Friends of the Dunes for an all around good time. :) After this, Eel River Watershed Improvement Group (ERWIG) is back for their usual Science on Tap series, so check them out for more awesome talks the rest of the year 💖

Team Sequoia is out traveling and representing Humboldt's Insects, Spiders, Slugs, and more in San Diego. I'll also be learning more about the critters of the desert to bring back to Humboldt!

7th, 8th, & 9th:

Start on the 7th for Night at the Nat, and staying strong for 8th & 9th Weekend of Wonder: Bug

Going to be learning a lot about So Cal bugs from Francisco the Bugologist.Bichólogo🦎 🐛, and sharing some of the aweomse insect knowledge we've gained from Kevin Huntley with the Silver Dune Digger Bee! 🐝

12th - 16th we'll be at the Humboldt County Fair for Shell-ebration to celebrate the Humboldt Bay and Pacific Coast

14th Last Eureka FNM! 🎇

15th: Salmon Festival with Yurok Tribe. Fun and games, plenty of activities for children, live music, and of course salmon! 🤤

21st Friday Night Market in Arcata begins! 🥳 This one is special as it'll go till 10PM and will kick off the season with bang El Pulpo Magnifico 🔥🐙🔥

22nd: Goutsuwe'n (One Sky) with Wiyot Tribe
This goes till midnight, but come early for the best smoked salmon ever 🙌

It's official, we're moving!

We got a long journey ahead of us between repairs and putting our own bit of magic into this space, but we're excited to the share the news!
We'll be in the downstairs of this gorgeous pink Henderson building, so you just KNOW we're going to fill her windows up with all kinds of gorgeous plants and art.

It's still going to be awhile until our doors are open, but you'll definitely be seeing us scampering back and forth with our van as we make things happen.

Thank you for all the amazing support from everyone around us, this isn't something we ever dreamed of! It feels like just yesterday when Diana and I were hiking up the hillside brainstorming mushroom earrings, or doodling at the café what kind of stuff we'd want to make..

Meet the Silver Bee, also known as the Silver Digger Bee & Pacific Dune-Digger (Habropoda miserabilis). 🩶🖤🩶

These solidarity dune bees are most active from March - June when they emerge from their ground nensting burrows. They are only able to survive in restored coastal habitats with native supporting plants, such as the featured coastal sand cerbena, coast buckwheat, and sea bindweed. 🌼🌸🌸

One the challanged we face in trying to raise awareness for rare species is that there isn't always a lot of resources on them.
We've been working on these little fuzz balls off and on for almost a year, but it kept just not feeling right and would get pushed to the side for other projects. 🤔

It wasn't until a wonderful series of events from DJ Wild Ginger having us on her show with KMUD Radio where she asked us about this specific species that lead to her friend / Kevin Huntley AKA The Bug Guy reaching out! Thanks to the trained eyes of the expert himself, we were able to get the finishing details just right. AND he saved the day again by sharing his photos as reference images on the information card! ✨️

Thank you Kevin Huntley for helping make these happen, and for all the work you do protecting their environment and educating others on these little guys and a ton of other bug species of Humboldt 🫶

And shout out to all the other nature nerds out there sharing their discoveries and experience out on the field! The first step towards conservation is awareness, and the more folks who are aware, the more folks who care. ✨️🌿
