First Archery Elk for Sarah —

We burned a lot of miles early in the week and got nothing but old sign. No bugles. Weather and cattle made it worse.

Moved to a different spot we’d scouted earlier. Fresh sign, still quiet.

Next morning we heard bugles as we left camp and went after them. Found the bulls just sitting in a field, in no hurry to move. We slid over for better wind on the off chance they’d cross onto public land.

The biggest bull was already making the crossing when we got there, so we set up and waited. Joe slipped across for a better look and the smaller bulls started filtering in.

Sarah sat tight and took a nice shot to take down the largest of the remaining bulls.

Solid hunt. First Montana archery bull elk in the books.

Epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) hit our area hard last year.

In a matter of 2 weeks, we saw the number of deer on camera shrink to near zero, and the bodies of dead whitetail found on surrounding properties swelled to well over 20…We are still coming across new finds.
