(Aug. 3 • 7:00 AM) FATS Update: Wet Trails

Another ½ inch of rain fell on FATS Sunday, bringing the weekend total to 3½ inches.

It will take at least 48 hours for the trails to dry enough for use. Please stay off the trails until conditions improve to help prevent damage. Thank you.

Stay tuned for updates.

Sharing the good stuff…

All 6 FATS trails are finally open!

A year and nine months ago, Hurricane Helene tore through this system. Trees down everywhere. Trails buried. Miles of work ahead.

Since then, volunteers have shown up again and again….cutting, clearing, reclaiming…until every trail could finally reopen.

SORBAcsra is the only organized trail advocacy group in this area working for all trail users.

These trails didn’t fix themselves. Volunteers did.

If you ride here, run here, or hike here, you’re already part of the story.

Membership keeps this work going and continued renewals are what sustain it year after year, keeping experienced members alongside new ones so the work never slows down.

Augusta Canal Authority Announces Reopening of Lake Olmstead Trailhead Restrooms
AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Augusta Canal Authority is pleased to announce that the restrooms at the Lake Olmstead Trailhead will reopen to the public on Thursday, July 2, following two years of closure due to vandalism.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. this Thursday, July 2. The public and supporters of the Augusta Canal are invited to attend.
The facilities have been repaired and refurbished to better serve residents and visitors who use the Augusta Canal’s trails and natural areas. These repairs were made possible through generous donations to the Augusta Canal Keepers and the Augusta Canal National Heritage Area.
“We are grateful for the community support that made these repairs possible,” said Russ Gambill, on behalf of the Augusta Canal Authority. “With additional security enhancements, the support of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the Richmond County Marshal’s Office, and the continued cooperation of the general public, we are optimistic that the restrooms can remain open for the convenience of all citizens of Augusta.”
The Lake Olmstead Trailhead provides access to the Augusta Canal’s scenic trail network, which is enjoyed by joggers, hikers, walkers, families with strollers, and bicyclists throughout the year.
The Augusta Canal Authority encourages all trail users to help protect public amenities by reporting suspicious activity and treating the facilities with care so they may remain available for everyone who enjoys the natural setting of the Augusta Canal.
