Art on Southern Pines welcomes new vendor Joni Purk.

She introduces herself. "Former Owner and Curator of Charlotte Fine Art Gallery, I closed my gallery during Covid and moved South. I am excited to see the variety of artisan crafts in the area. Although I offer fine art in oil, acrylic and watercolor, I dabble on more affordable and gift-giving pieces at fine craft fairs in the area.

"Tiny 3x3 original paintings on mini easels, birth month flora bookmarks from my original watercolors, notecards, small original watercolors, acrylics and oils, and customer favorites are always available at these events. Looking forward to my first time at the Art on Southern Pines Holiday Edition. Stop by and say hello!"

The show will be Saturday, October 24, 10:00-2:00 at Christ Church Presbyterian, 4201 Southern Pines Drive, Evans. As Joni said, stop by and say hello.

Mama T Handmade, owned by Theresa West, returns to Art on Southern Pines this fall., bringing delicately knit baby clothes and cute plush toys.

She says, “I learned needlework (knit, crochet and cross stitch) at a DYA summer program when I was 15 years old. I made most birthday and Christmas gifts as a young adult. Years later, I picked it up again when my daughter was born and I started making baby clothes. My daughter's wedding brought me back to this art after designing and making the flower girl basket, ring pillow and shoulder coverings for some of the bridal party. Family and friends coaxed me to do something with my talent. That is when Mama T Handmade was born, a fiber artist company that offers hand crafted pieces created with care. I love being able to change a ball of yarn into something special. Items include wearables and accessories for all ages, home/holiday decor and unique infant items.”

Come see, come buy. And bring your gift list to complete your holiday shopping. Saturday October 24, 10:00-2:00, at Christ Church Presbyterian, 4201 Southern Pines Drive, Evans.

From leather working, woodworking, sewing and soap making, they enjoy creating and seeing others enjoy what they've worked hard on and glorify God with their hands. Deepti Malik is an Augusta‑based oil painter whose creative journey began long before she ever called herself an artist. From school projects to carefully drawn science diagrams, art was the quiet thread woven through her childhood. Drawing came instinctively, filling the margins of her notebooks with doodles that hinted at a calling she wouldn’t fully embrace until much later in life.
Deepti earned her master’s degree in Food and Nutrition and worked as a dietician before moving to the United States, where she rediscovered her creative spark through paper crafting. What started as a simple hobby quickly grew into a flourishing chapter—teaching online classes and designing stamps for U.S. paper‑crafting companies.

Her transition into fine art was sparked at Augusta’s Arts in the Heart Festival, where seeing local artists at work—and the unwavering encouragement of her husband—gave her the courage to take a leap of faith. In 2023, she picked up her first set of oil paints and stepped into a world that felt both new and deeply familiar. Today, her work is rooted in curiosity, courage, and a desire to create pieces that encourage the importance of connecting with wildlife

Do you love reading historical fiction? Author Charles Bowen is a native Augustan, with roots here from the 1840s, when his great-grandfather moved to the area. He attended local schools and graduated from Richmond Academy as cadet first lieutenant. He worked in his family’s business until moving into financial and development pursuits with his brother.

As a young child, he loved reading history books and writing short stories. He acted with The Augusta Players and Summer Stock, and even wrote and produced plays and movies. In college, he was editor of the college magazine, which included writing articles about the United Nations.

World War II and Augusta’s part in it, visits to two training air bases, conversations with local pilots serving in our military, listening to Edward R. Murrow’s short-wave broadcast from London, and the responding role of The US 8th Air Force all led to his first historical novel, Paladin: The Story of Augusta’s Fighter Ace. Paladin’s story is the prelude to Bowen’s current novel, Thorns in the Garden City, which tells the story of corruption in the city during 1945-1970.

Bowen hopes to bring a third book — still at the printer’s — which is not part of the series. Projektil Amerika deals with WW-2 Germany during the war's declining years, 1944-45, and the happenings within the population and military.

Art on Southern Pines has five authors this show. So out on your reading glasses and buy some books Saturday, October 24 10:00-2:00. The show is hosted by Christ Church Presbyterian, 4201 Southern Pines Drive in Evans.

Using Exodus 31:3-5 as a reference, homeschoolers Sara and Andrew Ronan present Beyond Wood Designs.

According to Sara, “My brother and I started Beyond Wood Designs because starting a business was suggested in our homeschool economics course. We chose the items that we're making because they were hobbies that we enjoyed doing and have been doing for a little while. In serving at Art on Southern Pines, we hope to experience and learn what it is to run a small business.”

Come to Art on Southern Pines to see their work and to encourage them along their way. Of course, you’ll check out our other 60 vendors while you’re there. Saturday, October 24, 10:00-2:00 at Christ Church Presbyterian, 4201 Southern Pines Drive in Evans.

Christina Perkins is the artist behind Hill Laser Creations. “As an Interior Designer by trade I have always cared about making homeowners enjoy the spaces where their family spend the most time. Now as a stay at home mom I had to find a way to add a little something to people's homes that make them smile. With laser engraving and cutting I make signs, cutting boards, frames, earrings, tumblers, coasters, custom gifts, ornaments, home decor and other unique art for any and all occasions. Most of my pieces are made with wood and all are hand painted. I love having the opportunity to brighten everyone's day with a unique, personal or just a simple funny gift! Over the next few weeks I will be updating my Etsy page for the holidays. You can also buy custom or made to order items on my page such as monogramed items.” https://hilllasercreations.etsy.com

You can see Christina’s designs in person at Art on Southern Pines Saturday October 24, 10:00-2:00. The show is hosted by Christ Church Presbyterian, 4201 Southern Pines Drive in Evans.
