Geoffry Hiltwein passed away peacefully at Evanston Hospital on the evening of December 28, 2023, with his daughters by his side. Geof was born January 5, 1949, and spent his childhood in Des Plaines, IL. He was gregarious, adventurous, and loyal – making friendships that lasted anywhere from a single minute standing next to him in line to 60+ years.
A talented man, Geof played the bass guitar, was involved in a variety of sports in his younger years, had a passion for recipe creation and cooking, and was an amazing artisan and craftsman. Though what he loved most was helping people – be it through playing auctioneer in costume at church fundraisers; through Hiltie’s, his 35-year business specializing in antique furniture refinishing and repair; or after retirement, assisting others with their projects at Lemoi Ace Hardware. He was never without a story, a smile, and a natural ability to connect with people.
Devoted husband to Niki, loving father to daughters Jen and Kim, caring brother to sister Sharon, cherished cousin, uncle, and friend to many. Geoffry will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all fortunate enough to have known him.
A service and fellowship hour will be held in his memory on Saturday, February 3rd, at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3637 Golf Road, Evanston, IL. For those who cannot join in person, the service will be streamed at https://trinityevanston.org/hiltwein.
