I get it. Books are heavy. A lot of people consider them trash. But it drives me nuts when resellers would rather trash ALL of these books instead of just donating them to people that may actually read them: Schools, retirement homes, Veteran centers, Hospitals, prisons, anywhere! Yes, it takes a little more time, but come on people, think about more than just the bottom dollar.
I sell books because I love them. 95% of booksellers do like this person below. I just grabbed this image from a bookseller site today. This is what they are proudly recycling just this week. And, they are a small seller.
Be careful where you donate your books, because more often than not, this is what is happening to them. They scan to see if it is worth anything TO THEM. If not, into the bin it goes. There are books that are beautiful, filled with printed and sometimes hand colored book plates from the 1800's that get trashed just beacause they are "too hard to look up" and are made after the 1970s. Those books cannot be replaced.
Sorry to vent, but it drives me insane. Rest assured if you need to reclaim your space and need to donate your books, they will NOT be trashed if you decide to donate them to me. I WILL make sure they get to people that need and/or want them. And if YOU need/want books for a nonprofit or donation, just send me a message or email me. I'm sure I can help out! Thanks for listening.
