Will of the Hill Forge presents this handcrafted hunting knife, made from 1084 carbon steel with red cedar handle and nickel-steel pins. This knife is approximately 8 inches long (3 1/4 blade). This knife was shaped by a process called stock removal, using mostly files and traditional techniques.

108 layer pattern welded ("damascus") knife, with a pewter bolster and desert ironwood handle. This knife began as a stack of 9 alternating layers of tool steel and nickel steel. That billet was forged welded together and hammered out into a bar. That bar was cut and restacked, and the process was repeated until the desired layer count was achieved. After grinding and polishing the blade is dipped in acid solution to reveal the pattern. Many thanks to my teacher, Dan Estep, for walking me through this process. This something I have wanted to do since I first became interested in blacksmithing.

Will of the Hill forge is hosting its first giveaway! This sgian dubh (skee-ən-DOO) style knife is made up of 14 layers of alternating tool steel and spring steel.
