This is a photograph of my grandmother, great grandparents, and several great aunts and cousins, taken Easter Sunday 1921. They and most of my family lived in Athens and Sayre, PA which was a major hub for the Lehigh Valley Railroad, and many of them worked for the railroad in the shops and yards. But what blows me away in one of life’s quirky happenstances- the man on the far left, my great grandfather Fred Ward Parks, was a conductor for the Lehigh Valley Railroad, and undoubtedly made many, many trips to Fair Haven long before I was born, and even longer before I ended up at The Fair Haven Flea , right next to where he might have stepped off the platform punching tickets and yelling “All Aboard!”
I never knew my great grandfather, as he died when my father was just a child, but I feel connected to him and wonder if he too is enjoying a little chuckle as we celebrate Old Railroad Day this Saturday, August 8th. All of us at The Flea hope you’ll enjoy the tours, games, performances, shops and festivities, as you learn about this fascinating chapter in Fair Haven’s history!

Coming to a vintage market near you is this gorgeous primitive cabinet that shows signs of being well loved. It’s such a practical piece that I can see it being used in any room. Would make a great entertainment center, a sideboard in your dining room, extra storage or a perfect island for your kitchen. How would you style or use it in your home?
Stay tuned to see when it will make its debut 😜
